One President wildly exceeded his authority by forgiving some student loans; a different President barely scratched the surface of his authority by disappearing anyone he pleases without trial to a foreign gulag. Constitutional law is a serious intellectual enterprise.

A helpful guide to the current state of US trade policy:

I need to draw the line from “Trump promises to withdraw from Afghanistan but under a timeline that foists it onto Biden; Biden withdraws and it’s messy but press coverage overdoes it so Biden never recovers; Trump re-enters office and promptly sentences Afghanis who helped our war effort to death.”

Big update from the Movies News account...

The cuts "would kill the much-anticipated Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, an observatory seen as on par with [Hubble & JWST] that is already fully assembled and on budget for a launch in two years." Would also apparently close NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Huge, HUGE loss for science.

I think it's bad that the country is led by people who haven't had a real problem in their entire lives and couldn't get a regular job due to being too weird

10 yr yield is 7 bps higher than it was when Trump yanked reciprocal tariffs on Wednesday because he purpotedly was "watching the bonds"

Very informative chart from Washington Post

Some of the nicest families and children I have met over the years have spectrum disorders. The families are often more engaged than the average family (partly out of necessity) and they are always so kind and loving to everyone around them. Fuck you if you voted for this.

One day apart.

Nice to see Ben Shapiro’s wife having some influence tbh

So the basic jist here is through Trump's various insanities the Dow is only down 5,000 from its peak instead of 8,000 and I think that's very impressive, like an alcoholic going from 8 beers a night to 4. But I also don't think said metaphorical alcoholic should be setting tariff rates.

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

For the record, trillions were lost, panic gripped Wall Street., Main Street and the globe and all we got were phone calls. And we’re left with high tariffs that are still forecast to reduce growth and boost inflation. Doesn’t seem much like victory to me.

So, to be clear we are now at: China: 125% tariffs Mexico 35% tariffs Canada 35% tariffs? EU -- who fucking knows? 10%? 35%? Entire rest of the world: 10% Stock market: FUCK YEAH!!!!

Very, very happy that at least with Patel it looks like he's lazy as shit and just wants to grift.

So increased tariffs on China, Mexico, and Canada, continued tariffs on retaliating countries (like the EU), but reduced 10% tariffs on the Heard and McDonald Islands, so the S&P is up by like 5% over the last few minutes. Sure. Whatever.

Fascinating that under Biden the Dow went from 29,348.10 to 43,487.83 due to legislation like the Chips and Science Act and the Infrastructure law While it’s plunged to about 37,750 in the past week because of the Trump tariffs Yet MAGA claims it’s the Biden policies that are disastrous
