“We must dissent from a government that has left its young without jobs, education or hope. We must dissent from the poverty of vision & the absence of moral leadership. We must dissent because America can do better, because America has no choice but to do better.”

“We must dissent from the indifference. We must dissent from the apathy. We must dissent from the fear, the hatred and the mistrust. We must dissent from a nation that has buried its head in the sand, waiting in vain for the needs of its poor, its elderly, & its sick to disappear & just blow away…”

@jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social handled this ethically and honorably from the beginning — more than we can say of the clowns who breached security protocols and then lied to cover it up. I'm proud to be a subscriber of @theatlantic.com and appreciate your journalism every day. Thank you!

I’m a local news publisher. We have no paywall. (90%+ advertiser supported with the balance in voluntary subscriptions.) There are people who think our social media posts and comments on our posts are all they need to know. They never visit our site to read the actual stories. Willful ignorance.

@maddow.msnbc.com this week played a clip from this interview with Vance in September 2021, when he was running for US Senate, his first public office — an office he held for just 24 months before he was catapulted to VP. Watch the entire interview. www.youtube.com/live/PMq1ZEc...

As Vance explained, “when the courts stop you, stand before the American people like Andrew Jackson did and say the chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.” Vance’s words express the administration’s regard for the rule of law.

The Trump/Vance administration got right to work on this objective. In astonishment, we observe that their actions violate the Constitution, federal statutes, regulations and well-settled case law. But we miss the point. None of that matters.

“And when we get taken to court and when the courts stop you, stand before the American people like Andrew Jackson did and say the chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.”

Or maybe concerned about the effect it would have on the outcome of his second impeachment trial?
