- The other day I bought a used album called “The Sounds Wasps Make”. When I got home I played it and thought to myself “this is nothing like the sounds wasps make”. Then I realised I was playing the B side.

Vermont, I love your energy. More of this, please.

One of the most difficult things about all this is…life goes on. Democracy is crumbling but, I am still job hunting. Democracy is crumbling but, I have to sort daycare. Democracy is crumbling but, I need to clean my car. Democracy is crumbling but, the floor needs mopping.

DEAR FEDERAL EMPLOYEE, I AM WELL KNOWN LEADER OF DOGE ELONK MUSK. FOR THE PROSPERING OF AMERICA AND PER THE REQUEST OF PRESIDENT TRUMP PLEASE TO BE RESPONDING THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND THE PASSWORD TO YOUR GOVERNMENT COMPUTERS ACCOUNT, OTHERWISE YOU MAY BE FIRED

Briefly going to use this as a jumping off point to talk about art! There's a concept in art history called kunstwollen or "will to art" introduced by Alois Riegel, who was a late 19th century Austrian art historian. It is often used to explain why certain motifs appear at certain times in history.

I think the lasting legacy of the internet will be tricking people into believing they know everything. We ingest more information in an hour than our ancestors did in a year, yet we are more dangerously ignorant than ever. I guess the other legacy will be easy shopping.

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Dolphins.

I have a few spare moments before bed tonight, so let's play everyone's favorite game: WHICH CARTRIDGE ART DO YOU PREFER: REGIONAL N64 EDITION! I'm not going to include any PAL art tonight (minus Quest 64) as I don't have a ton and they were frequently similar to the Americas. Here we go! 🧵🧵🧵

Coincidentally read this part of Terry Pratchett's "Guards! Guards!" over lunch. (My first Pratchett book.) Here, the soon-to-be-former heads of the city are realizing there's a new monster in charge, each wishing one of the others would stand in protest. I heard Pratchett was incisive, but dang. 👀

Lots to piece out from day 1 of the hearing on Trump's executive order concerning trans people in the military, but this back-and-forth between Judge Ana Reyes and government lawyer Jason Lynch about intersex people and biology is interesting!

A cold civil war ... never thought I'd be writing that, but here we are.

Bioshock is peak gaming.

“I have lived a thousand times, Gabriella. A thousand deaths, a thousand rebirths, like you. We have met before – in different places, different times. The world burns, you forget, and I don’t. The match in your hands. It’s always you. You kill them, and I’m always too late.”

Yes! To me this is the giveaway that kids should not have any internet access. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PIX...

there's a moment in the first mile of a marathon when everything hurts and you're trying to cope and it hits you - oh my god, I've got 25.2 more miles of this. Don't know why that came to mind, in the first month of this new administration...

4 games you wish more people would play

in one of those annoying truths like “exercise will make you feel better”, i’m going to say the antidote to despair is to do things with other people.

To all those saying "shouldn't we root out government inefficiency? What's wrong with DOGE?" a quick background on Constitutional law and why the WAY it is being violated exposes the true motives of the criminals:

This story is way too short

Most of the world’s brightest minds are hard at work developing new ways for you to get depression from a computer

The sarcophagus red juice evaporated and was breathed in by every person on the planet. Humanity passed out and entered a nightmarish sleep. It is still 2018 and we are all trapped in a Mummy Dream

We probably all need to become more blatantly anti-Silicon Valley. Give me less innovation, and more soul. New technology doesn’t mean infinite progress especially without being grounded in what it means to be human.

Do you find yourself on SM more than you want to be, perhaps more than you find helpful to your brain/body? That's not unusual, especially these days. Our instincts are to know more, connect more, and commiserate more, that's all very human of you! Ideas from me, a MH therapist👇

In toxic relationships, you're forced to choose between honesty and loyalty. You bite your tongue to protect their ego. In healthy relationships, honesty is an expression of loyalty. You speak your mind to help them grow. When you have trust and respect, candor shows care.

In these dreary times, hope flickers like a candle, fighting against the chants of ignorance, the cries of the experts rise, reminding us all, that vaccines are shields, not weapons, an armor forged in science, crafted for life, not for death.

I vividly remember the exact moment when I looked around me and realized I was working for the mafia. My naive young suburban ass was stunned, but not scared. I'm grateful for the decade I knew them, and what I learned. Now? I'm terrified of my own government. I was never afraid of the boys.

I think sometimes it helps to think of your attention as currency. And to ask yourself: 1) Who did I (directly or indirectly)give my attention to today? 2) Did they deserve it? and 3) If they didn't deserve it, wouldn't it be better if I cut them off from that attention-supply?

Holy shit

Lots of bad stuff going on makes it all the more important to remember that at this very instant someone just met the love of their life someone just adopted a shelter dog someone’s baby just took their first steps someone just had the idea for a book that will change lives

The RFK confirmation, more than any other, feels like an attack on children. On my kids. They have no say in any of this, and now they're vulnerable to long-dead diseases because the worst member of the Kennedy family did his own research online.

We all like to yell at the Democrats, but it’s really Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune who are letting Elon Musk and his faceless goon squad make a mockery of their power as leaders of a coequal branch without uttering a peep or lifting a finger.

If you act like you're on drugs when you’re not on drugs, they put you on drugs to make you act like you're not on drugs

if a major politician held an emergency rally about the current ongoing coup by the richest man in the world, I think people would go to it. Shit is well and truly fucked. I can think of a couple of people who should do that right now.

Senator Hawley: Did you or did you not use the term "Patrick Midhomes" on a football podcast in November 2023? Me [sweating profusely, glancing at lawyers]: Are you familiar with air yards over expected per-- Senator Hawley: ANSWER THE QUESTION SIR

So if I’m understanding today correctly, the world’s richest person Elon Musk, whom no one elected, is taking over federal payment systems and employee data while the federal employees who investigate and prosecute public corruption are being fired en masse.

okay so what legal authority does elon musk have to commandeer the office of personnel management and access reams of sensitive data? www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

I consider myself under the broad umbrella of atheism but that does not mean I do not have faith. I just don't have it in a deity. I have faith that a better world is possible. I can't prove it conclusively. But I believe it. Because I have to in order to keep going.

TODDLER: I peed ME: you did a big pee TODDLER: a HUGE pee ME: a veritable ocean TODDLER: a fish in it ME: you... peed a fish? TODDLER: it's a good fish

Can't tell if this is about democrats or football

As the president delivered remarks blaming the D.C. plane crash on his political opponents and diversity programs, across the Potomac in Arlington, young figure skaters were choking back tears as they laid flowered at a makeshift memorial to three of the dead.
