Ran into this problem for a legacy project. Someone errantly named a package "3.0.0" it was deleted at a later date but not before someone working on this project errantly typed "npm install 3.0.0". Bonkers! npmjs.com really should have a list of all deleted packages. www.reddit.com/r/javascript...

18F was doing exactly the type of work that DOGE claims to want – yet we were eliminated shortly after midnight. Read our letter to the American people: 18f.org

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

Scope out 42.zip folks!

The U.S. government has put up a submission form for reporting schools who teach kids about “DEI.” It accepts file uploads. Internet, you know what to do enddei.ed.gov

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

My sleep paralysis demon.

In a room of Bowser's Keep in Super Mario RPG, there is an invisible Mallow floating out of bounds. Here is what he looks like when made visible. He has no scripts or interactions, remaining completely inert at all times. His purpose is unknown.

don’t meet your heros. i finally saw the critters from redwall irl and they don’t even talk. they’re just pissing and shitting everywhere.

"We are the builders"

Ziff Davis, owner of sites including IGN and CNET, quietly removed DEI language from its website. 🔗 www.404media.co/ziff-davis-d...

Balatro launched one year ago today I often say I made this game for myself and friends, but seeing so many people connect with Balatro has filled this past year with joy. Thank you players, your love and support have kept Balatro thriving! I appreciate you all naneinf! 🍌

looks like we are upon the annual “discover that david hamburger helper is a dumbass” and someone shared this breathtaking exchange from back in 2016 - these were what i coined back then the “woke dhh” years

Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes. You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment. My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc. www.reddit.com/r/Passports/...

PSA: All of David Lynch's features have just dropped at archive dot org, including Industrial Symphony No 1, Hotel Room, and the Duran Duran concert

this guy being the shadow president and posting like this is proof that, just like the cold war, gamergate never truly ended

Microsoft's own research confirms something that was already pretty obvious: relying on a text generating machine to come up with answers erodes critical thinking, and is a method favoured by those who never liked doing critical thinking in the first place advait.org/files/lee_20...

a good part of me thinks that in addition to everything else, the reason they are scrubbing these stories is they do not want disadvantaged kids to believe they can aspire to anything other than their designated “black” or “hispanic” or “woman” job

Adam Savage and I have similar ear problems: eustian tubes and eardrum rebuild. Also this is a great example of accessibility being invisible to most folks, I never once noticed he had been wearing them for over two decades. youtu.be/uykq5aJCwBw

These EOs are a waste of taxpayer money.

This is the most important story in the United States right now. www.wired.com/story/treasu...

y'all ever see a take so bad you are forced to immediately go to sleep?

I've been spending more time on archive.org lately and I think it's important for folks to understand which sources are original vs derived. Unfortunately this information is buried in an XML file. blog.archive.org/2011/03/31/h...

EA is planning $1B in stock buybacks. This needs to be illegal again. Labor is suffering while shareholders are being enriched. You can't make games without people (no matter what AI delulus tell you).

Absolutely hilarious to me that the plot of The Spy Who Loved me hinges on a last second programming fix. Also the hunt and peck typing on the terminals is so quaint.

ABC News reported Marco Rubio has been acting as head of the National Archives for weeks. This is news to everyone at the National Archives, including, apparently, the current head of NARA: www.404media.co/national-arc...

Once you've seen the same bad headline 9x it's good to stop scrolling and put on an alternative rock CD

Any Ruby folks open to a 3-12 month gig? GraphQL migration to the latest Apollo Router, remote, quick start, and sounds like a fairly well known shop with good eng. Will forward interest to a friend who was looking.

It’s the job of every congressional democrat to grind the gears of government to a stop. Right now. Block everything. Slow walk every committee. Call every vote. Filibuster every post office name change. State Dems need to build parallel institutions to protect the people at home. GET TO WORK.

The most important thing I can tell everyone that I've learned from being a YouTuber who explains how stuff works is that each and every time I thought "this is common knowledge and doesn't need to be explained" I was wrong.

The DEI caused the plane crash narrative is a distraction. The tariffs are a distraction. Whatever insane nonsense Trump spews that the media will chase like cats chasing a laser light is a distraction. The only story that counts right now is the wholesale hijacking of control of the US government.

Unfortunately the Constitution did not foresee a situation where the president does whatever he wants and says "What are you gonna do about it dork"

"Last week, the seasonal workers who staff 433 national parks and historical sites, including Yosemite, Death Valley and Joshua Tree, began receiving emails saying their job offers for the 2025 season had been “rescinded,” with little further explanation". www.latimes.com/california/s...

running a website with no ads and no corp owners is incredibly stressful, but it also rules when you sit back at the end of the week and look at what you've all done aftermath.site/products

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

Yuck Elon, and Yuck Twitter Gold 🤮 It costs around 12K a year…. What a horrible waste of money, Instead of doing that, we are giving $1000 to a different charity each month this year. Starting with Doctors Without Borders!
