PubMed has been down for at least 11 hours and we are EXTREMELY concerned. We hope it’s mere incompetence and not an official action. If any of our followers have media events today, please mention it.

NEW: RFK Jr.'s "radical transparency" means ending a 54-year-old transparency policy. A Nixon-era policy gave the public the ability to comment on HHS decisions relating to “public property, loans, grants, benefits, or contracts.“ RFK Jr. ended that on Friday. www.lawdork.com/p/rfk-jr-rad...

House Republicans hunting for ways to pay for President Trump’s tax cuts have called for cutting the federal government’s share of Medicaid spending, which could result in millions losing health coverage unless states decide to play a bigger role in its funding.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will no longer process transgender identity data in order to comply with President Trump’s executive order

Staff and observers worry that the agency may not be prepared for emerging threats including bird flu and insect-borne diseases.

Any talk you hear from the current administration about making the US more competitive in science and technology is utter bullshit. What they are doing is sabotaging our country for years if not decades to come.

This is an incredible loss. PRAMS (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System) has been essential for understanding care access and outcomes in the perinatal and postpartum periods. For example, intimate partner violence before or after childbirth www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/38733...

Great meeting with @repauchincloss.bsky.social's office to discuss @acscan.bsky.social's #CancerAdvocacy. Protecting Medicaid, prioritizing cancer research funding, and increasing access to early detection can help save lives from cancer. Thanks to Stephanie for a productive discussion!

Lawmakers in the House are considering a budget resolution that would include significant cuts in Medicaid spending, a change that could have significant implications for hospitals. Explore Medicaid’s role for hospitals and other key hospital facts: on.kff.org/4hNOOCh

#Medicaid covered Milly's breast cancer treatment, including testing & surgery. She went on to become a successful lawyer & mother. Congress is considering massive cuts to Medicaid which could jeopardize lifesaving care for people like Milly. Send a message urging Congress to reject Medicaid cuts:

Around half of young Republican men think men face substantial discrimination in America. Only around one-third think women face discrimination. www.americansurveycenter.org/newsletter/h...

Advocacy is my favorite space @acscan.bsky.social

Roses are red, Violets are blue, RFK Jr was confirmed, Looks like we’ll all get bird flu.

Make your voice heard: with one click you can make sure your members of Congress know that cuts to Medicaid should be off the table @acscan.bsky.social act.fightcancer.org/a/send-messa...

Ending voting for women is a core part of the Evangelical plan for the country. They have even considered implementing “household” voting where each family only casts one vote (and we know who decides). This is the first step. (Image reposted with ALT)

The Flu is no joke this year. I got my flu shot this fall and was still walloped by Flu A in January (the first time I’ve ever gotten the flu)

The public broadcaster says it is closing its Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) office to comply with a recent executive order from President Donald Trump.

First they came for immigrants & we spoke up because it’s the right thing to do. Then they came for trans people & we spoke up because it’s the right thing to do. Then they came for federal research dollars & we spoke up because we don’t want to die of diseases that scientists can cure.

The Associated Press says the White House blocked it from covering an official event on Tuesday because it did not refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. By @davidfolkenflik.bsky.social

86% of cancer patients & survivors who are able to purchase their health insurance on the Marketplace due to tax credits say they would have difficulty getting the care they need without these credits @acscan.bsky.social www.fightcancer.org/policy-resou...

The irony of claiming fear about measles and TB from those seeking asylum while appointing an anti science anti vaccine grifter to HHS is just too much. Fucking post truth world.

So happy we could cry to see a new MMWR, published for the first time since Jan. 16. This week's seems dedicated to wildfires, with Notes from the Field reports from Hawaii and LA County. cdc.gov/mmwr

Fun times on the commuter rail tonight 🤬

At the last minute, National Institute on Drug Abuse advisory council meeting open session cancelled today. Unclear if closed session for grant decisions will happen. The US gvmt, while waging a trade war over fentanyl, is making it hard for us researchers to actually address the fentanyl crisis.

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

Senator Bill Cassidy just voted to advance illness, disability, and death for the American people. Disgraceful abandonment of your obligations as a doctor and an elected official. The preventable deaths this man will cause are on your hands. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...

Today is #WorldCancerDay Did you know❓ Vaccination against #hepatitisB can help prevent liver cancer in children, while #HPV vaccination for young girls can reduce the risk of #CervicalCancer later in life. Learn more 👉bit.ly/2NeFF8B

Tick, tick, tick..... #MMWR #CDC

A private citizen, with the backing of the President, illegally shut down a major government agency over the weekend and it is not on the front page of this morning's New York Times @peterbakernyt.bsky.social

SCOOP: Many of the pages that went missing on Friday from the CDC website on Friday have reappeared — in response to intense media coverage, backlash from the scientific community and concern for the public’s health. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/h...

Once again - Almost 90% of the fentanyl smuggled in over the border from Mexico is brought in by American citizens.

“Federal surveys play a key role in the health surveillance system, which helps direct initiatives to address some of the most pressing health conditions and problems facing the country.” Read more @kff.org

NYTimes adding insult to injury in this tragedy. The “treatment” was for autism, which isn’t a thing, and was being done by someone with no medical training who charges cash for expensive bogus therapies. And now a 5-year-old is dead because of the grift.

🛑CANCELLED—“Research on Women’s Health” funding website of the NIH.

I AM WORRIED ABOUT DEMOCRACY CHUCK.

The entire archive of CDC datasets can be found here. HUGE shoutout to data archivists- this work is important 👏🙌🏻 archive.org/details/2025...

📊 PURGE UPDATE 🗑️ On data.cdc.gov, you 🫵, the American people, should have access to hundreds of datasets, charts, and maps. These public resources are being set to private until they can change data points related to gender. Youth data will be esp hard hit as it contains the most non-binary data.

I hope all the women who voted for Trump remember this the next time they have a health problem we lack the tools to address. Women are half the population, but to this administration, we’re just “DEI”

The Census webpage is done. Census data is used to allocate federal funding, congressional representatives and electoral votes. This is a coup. www.census.gov

🚨 The CDC website is purging resources on LGBTQ+ health, diversity, equity, and health disparities. This is not just a bureaucratic change. It’s a dangerous decision with profound negative public health consequences. Let’s break down the harm this will cause. 🧵⬇️

Just stopped by @repauchincloss.bsky.social’s district office to drop off @acscan.bsky.social material that’s highlight our #canceradvocacy priorities for the First 100 Days of the 119th Congress. Will you meet with us to discuss how public policies can save lives from cancer?

BRFSS Prevalence and Trends Data Tool and Web Enabled Analysis Tool also are now offline

The entire website for the NIH Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is very nearly stripped bare. This is so, so devastating. orwh.od.nih.gov/research/fun...

The CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) webpages and data seem to have been scrubbed. These helped prepare public health responses by identifying geographical areas of the U.S. that may need extra resources during disasters, outbreaks, etc. I don’t think this admin cares if the vulnerable die.

🚨🚨🚨CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Surveillane System (YRBSS) was taken offline
