👂 Have you heard about the latest workforce projections for PTs? 📈 🎙️ Don't miss our podcast interview with authors of "Current and Projected Future Supply and Demand for Physical Therapists From 2022 to 2037: A New Approach Using Microsimulation." www.apta.org/apta-and-you...

When I visited Poland in 2018, I learned more about how the #Nazi party targeted German universities, scientists, and academics almost immediately after coming to power.

They got tired of fighting universities, only to have a powerful one (Harvard) fight back. So they're going to just screw us all over in one fell swoop unless we all bow down and throw away DEI programming and students' rights to free speech.

As of today, the NIH is saying it will deny funds to institutions that have any DEI programs. Segregationists are so threatened that marginalized people *may* have opportunities for advancement that they are willing to shut down universities and the scientific enterprise over it.

Bravo to colleagues at @uwsph.bsky.social for sharing their stories in @newyorker.com to highlight the negative human and economic impacts of the reckless, indiscriminate, wasteful, and partisan cancellation of important funding for science: www.newyorker.com/news/deep-st...

During COVID, we learned the hard way that nearly all our hospital PPE i.e. masks, gowns, gloves comes from China. A 104% tariff could send us straight back to pandemic-level shortages or drive healthcare costs even higher.🫠

Just spotted this paper on nursing home ownership changes and staffing. TLDR: ownership changes ==> staffing decreases. (You should read the full article!) Nice work by @doc-doc-pru.bsky.social @biancafrogner.bsky.social and others at @uwchws.bsky.social www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

I'm on a listserv to receive weekly funding opportunities from the #NIH, which is usually long and descriptive. This is what it says now. I've NEVER seen it like this before. #SaveOurScience

How it started // how it's going

Murphy: "Newsflash: These guys are incompetent. They don't know what they're doing. We hired a weekend Fox News host with no diplomatic or management experience with a checkered personal history of abuse and alcoholism to be our chief national security official. And it's going very badly."

If Sen. Cory Booker makes it to 7:19 p.m. EST, he will break segregationist Dixiecrat Strom Thurmond's record for his 24 hour 18 minute Senate floor speech against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

Hello, I’m a disruptor, very smart, here to create efficiency. I’m just going to drill holes in the bottom of this boat to see which parts of the hull are mission-critical.

I can’t believe we have to explain the difference between transgenic and transgender mice

Medicaid covers about one-fifth of all hospital spending. There's a hospital in pretty much every Congressional district, and it's often one of the biggest employers. www.kff.org/medicaid/iss...

In work led by Dr. Rachel Prusynski (@doc-doc-pru.bsky.social), the team found significant changes in staffing as nursing home ownership changed. The findings published in JAMDA were highlighted in McKnight's Long Term Care News: www.mcknights.com/news/nursing...

It’s human nature to desire wealth/privilege (resources). One example is we all get old or sick at some point and want to be able to survive w/o working, etc. It is pathologic, antisocial behavior to hoard excess resources while watching others suffer for lack of. There are no ethical billionaires

NIH cuts are getting the press, but VA research is getting slashed too. What do we lose when VA research goes away? Here's some greatest hits: The nicotine patch, invention of the cardiac pacemaker, first successful liver transplant, development of the CAT/CT scan prospect.org/health/2025-...

This, as health care folks push for special visas to ease nursing and homecare worker needs and tech firms lobby for H1B visas for people with engineering skills...

Great new work from @kff.org -- When asked about the consequences of losing Medicaid, a 55-year old Trump voter from Oklahoma said "For me it would, it would probably lead to death, and that’s kinda harshly speaking, but it’s the way that it would be." www.kff.org/medicaid/rep...

Similar to nuclear security, they accidentally fired the bird flu people.

Gutting Medicaid, which many rely on for maternity care and to pay for the NICU (birth weight < 1,200 g), is the most anti fetus, anti-newborn legislation possible.

Trump and the GOP just gutted a major Catholic charity but apparently it’s liberals and Democrats who are anti-Christian and anti-Church

Healthcare: when #tariffs are a tax on consumers, and the consumer of healthcare is the government, tariffs just cost the government more money: www.mcknights.com/news/nursing... (can we get ANYONE who has taken an econ 101 course in the current administration?) #MedSky

Approximately 20 members of Elon Musk’s staff have begun working within the Education Department. They have gained access to multiple sensitive internal systems, including a financial aid dataset containing the personal information of millions of students enrolled in the federal student aid program.

Instead of refreshing eRA commons to see if I got a grant, I can refresh eRA commons to see if grants still exist

You say: they shutdown USAID. You mean: they illegally broke in to a secure facility over a weekend, hijacked sensitive data on vulnerable people and US businesses, destroyed property Americans paid for, cut off resources for sick and hungry families, and fired Americans across the country.

🚨Advocacy alert for fair insurance contracts for #PhysicalTherapy and other providers in WA state: Sign in PRO on House Bill 1589: app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifie... HB 1589 levels the playing field for health care providers, including PTs, to negotiate fair contracts with health insurers. #MedSky

Don't rest on laurels, though. This seems performative, just like the TikTok debacle.

#TIL I have something in common with @rbreich.bsky.social because I, too, turned down the offer to go on Dr. Phil years ago. Dr. Phil is a grifter. (they wanted me on after I survived the 2010 Haiti earthquake, ostensibly to talk about my trauma, but they would not cover any costs...?)

The IGs fire back. Trump might eventually get his way...but don't make it easy for him. Don't let him circumvent a single law. Challenge every amoral, unethical, unconstitutional action. Fight him tooth and nail every step of the way.

Science is under attack.
