ChatGPT, which I am not impressed with relative to Claude, is always awake and always willing to help. If students use it as a tool and not a substitute for their own writing, I think it is useful. But I agree with your basic assertion, that it can be destructive to the students development.

I’m not sure it is so simple. There is something lost and a dependency may be created. But AI can also be a teacher and a tool.
I find Claude useful for refactoring my code. I don’t always use what it proposes, but I have learned from its suggestions.
Like any tool I see benefits and risks

SpaceX has used a style of design that relies on less parts screening and design review but more redundancy. It has worked very well for the Falcon 9.

True

I think this is an interesting observation. SpaceX takes more technical risks and has been able to bring down costs, but this approach may have met its limits as the technical complexity has increased.

AI, like fire, is a tool with tremendous potential and opportunity for misuse.

Not attacking here, but out of curiosity are there any Head Start studies that don't have a selection bias?

I if you drive less than 100 miles a day and own a home. I think the EV is better, because you can charge at night while you sleep and manage the charge state within ~40-75% state of charge. IMO, If don't have a house to charge at, it is too much hassle with the current tech.
comment in response to

We have one hybrid and one EV. I love EVs because of the driving characteristics and convenience. For the way I use a car they are way better. For my wife, the hybrid fits her better.
As a ME, I don't like the idea of having two drive systems. But they have shown themselves to be reliable.

Would you prefer insults? Not worth it to me.
In the end my opinion on US troop deployment means nothing and yours means less (because you can not vote in the US). This administration is going to make a mess of it, that much we likely agree on.
comment in response to

I have heard nothing that explains why the US has to perpetually fund a standing army in a foreign country. I get that people in other countries might like that arrangement and they would like it to continue forever. Are you saying the Germans can not defend themselves given enough time?
comment in response to
post
Tell me why that would be disastrous?
This is hypothetical and does not really apply to current situation in the US because Trump is not motivated by a desire to lower the US debt or manage assets in an optimum fashion.

International relations? Mine is in automatic control theory, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering. So very unrelated.

You have been an comparing me to "trump lackeys" etc in your comments and adding Trump policy goals in my opinion that are not there.
I never said anything about "paying for other countries". My only opinion is that the US has too much military located in wealthy countries. You disagree, ok BFD

No I am not, my PhD is not in this subject matter so it has no real value here. Again, my level of rudeness is a subjective opinion. You are certainly entitled to your opinion.
You claim my opinion is "tired poplist garbage" but you state no facts to support your opinion.
comment in response to

If you read the whole discussion, she was throwing around insults and acting like her opinions were facts. She included Dr. in her name so I asked her what her PhD was in.
In my opinion, a PhD is a degree and does not confer some unimpeachable wisdom. I state this from personal experience.

I agree. I am not perfect. But I have refrained from name calling. Bottom line: You feel your opinion is always right and anyone who disagrees with you is an ill-informed idiot.
Funny how the extreme right and left are so similar.
comment in response to

I disagree on the need for the forces in the position that they are in. That is my opinion.
You disagree, fine. Why when someone disagrees with you, do you feel the need to insult them? Do you feel, you are being insulted because I do not nod in agreement with you like a bobble head?
comment in response to

I am stating that it does not make sense to pay for the defense of wealthy countries, that is it. It is not about any return on investment. Germany can defend itself, it is not helpless.
Ukraine is a different story.

Of course, the US cannot be trusted. We are also not unique in this matter (i.e. Hungry).

I do not think I will get my wish. I am not advocating for what is coming.

I totally agree. We should renegotiate.
Sadly everything we do is to benefit 1 person and his cronies. Their idea of renegotiating is threats.

Sorry to hear about your hand.
I know what it means but I don't believe it is true.
What view did I impute to you?
comment in response to

I never said we were getting ripped off. We willingly created the force structure that we have. I personally do not think we need large troop placements in wealthy countries. If Germany is concerned, we should give them a few years to build their own force as we draw down.
comment in response to

I agree and what the current administration is doing is disgusting.

I do not feel Americans are exceptional. I am not even sure of what you are saying, "deratabding ofbthe"?? Again, why do you feel Americans should have troops stationed all over the world? Especially why should they be in wealthy countries that can defend themselves (beyond token forces)?
comment in response to

I will spell it out for you. Canada has a small army because it lived (past tense) in a safe part of the world and didn't need a massive army. NY is a big city that has a massive militarized police force.

All the wars and genocidal insanity of Ukraine, Syria, Sudan, Palestine, etc have had little to no effect on domestic politics.
Both parties are flawed, we will see how it plays out over the next 4 years.
My prediction is this administration will be much worse for the Palestinian people.
comment in response to
post
Dems are just a pol party not a moral authority, although many Dems pols did refer to it as genocide. Did any Republicans'? Nope.
Because you are criticizing the party that is more aligned with your stated opinion, your argument appears to be an ingenuine attempt to sew discord on the left.
comment in response to
post
No disagreement on the facts?
Great that you are able to educate me on the shortcomings of my simplistic worldview.
I never stated an opinion on if the conflict was a genocide, probably immaterial when you are omniscient.
In your opinion, is the Ukraine (ie white ppl) conflict a genocide?
comment in response to
post
I agree, opinions are often inaccurate. In all fairness, you are expressing your opinions as facts and oversimplifying our relationship with a sovereign state.
Are you disputing the facts that I stated? Do you think the facts stated are propaganda? If so which ones? Please be specific.
comment in response to
post
Wrong? Opinions aren’t facts.
Here are facts: Hamas attacked Israel on Oct 7th and killed many people. In response Israel declared war and began to wage war in response. Palestinians are being killed and suffering disproportionately.
The US has leverage but not as much as you claim (opinion)
comment in response to
post
Opposing right wing factions like Hamas and Bibi need each other to stay in power. Hamas’ Oct 7th attack created the space that Bibi needed politically for war.
Russians opportunists trolls used the conflict to divide the democrats to help install Trump
Blaming the dems benefits the far right.
comment in response to

Democrats aren’t fascists, they lost mostly because they were the incumbent and the corrosive effects of the right’s propaganda juggernaut that pervades our society.
The truth is issues like the Israeli Palestine conflict don’t matter to most voters.
We are all about to experience fascism

Utilities generate energy. Car companies make cars not financial instruments. Banks are a valid comparison, although they perform many functions that crypto does not. Crypto is a form of currency that consumes incredible amounts of energy and provide anonymity to criminals.
comment in response to
post
But Crypto has correlated with US equities markets the last couple of years undermining the idea that it is a safe haven for assets.
comment in response to
post
I respectfully disagree, I feel the recent price surge is a bubble based heightened speculation on what the incoming administration will do to benefit crypto. Time will tell, I personally like Ethereum better than bitcoin due to its energy efficiency after switching from mining to proof of stake.
comment in response to
post
True, it has been years. Maybe things have improved for some token/coins. Bitcoin transaction costs are still insane. A bitcoin transaction involving the blockchain consumes a lot energy and is economically inefficient. What type of entity would be willing to pay this price for the privacy?

When you beat the I hate liberals drum so happily you sound like a partisan or worse a Russian troll trying to brew discord. Either way, you got what wanted and we are going to see how Trump improves the situation for the people you pretend to care about.
