Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. (1/2)

I don’t know who produced this, but well done.

The benefits of our Special Relationship with the USA can now be found in the same bin as the benefits of Brexit and the competence of the last Tory government.

Apart from the disgusting tone, it's hardly the mark of a genius to be so fundamentally wrong. Billionaires only exist because society is forced to subsidise them. Everything and everyone suffers as a result.

Spot on again.

Number crunching: Fine handed to Barclays by FCA over ‘reckless’ fundraising in the 2008 financial crisis v bonus pool shared by Barclays’ bankers in 2024.

Some heroes wear 🏈helmets. Former MN Viking Chris Kluwe shows🇺🇸 what resisting anti-democratic forces looks like w/this simple, but powerful act of CD. "MAGA is profoundly corrupt, unmistakably anti-democracy &…explicitly a Nazi mvmt…U may have replaced swastikas w/red hats, but that's what it is.”

Fur is banned on UK farms but still floods in from countries like China, where 50M+ animals suffer. Toxic chemicals, gassing, and electrocution are the norm—time to close this cruel loophole. Sign now 👇 #FurFreeBritain petition.parliament....

The King of America's lies just get sillier and easier to disprove.

Calling Zelensky a “Dictator” must be where the line is drawn. It is my sincere hope that the whole political spectrum in the United Kingdom will speak with one voice in opposition to Trump’s lies.

Works as advertised

History is replete with examples of societies which have blossomed and thrived once the thorny problem of "citizens who are well educated and think for themselves" has been dealt with.

Just arrived in Paris for crucial talks. Europe’s security is at a turning point. Yes, it is about Ukraine—but it is also about us. We need an urgency mindset. We need a surge in defense. And we need both of them now.

I can see a four-way split at the next election. One can only hope that the Lib Dems do well enough to form a coalition with the shattered remains of Labour in order to keep out the far right.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions. I have had Fitbits for a while now and I'm relatively happy. The time has come for a new one, but they are owned by Google. Are there any European alternatives (or even just non-US alternatives) which are worth considering and which won't break the bank?

If I was one of them I'd be needing a significant pay rise and a very long future notice period to even consider it.

Sheryl Crow just sold her Tesla and donated the money to NPR because of “President Musk” MORE OF THIS ENERGY PLEASE!!!

As a fairly old programmer who had never had exposure to COBOL until very recently, this is an interesting revelation. Understanding complex, long-lived (I'm avoiding saying legacy) systems is not the job of weeks and someone with just a few years of modern language experience will be utterly lost.

It's been a long time since Private Eye's satire has made me audibly wince, but this is so to the point if it were a knife people would demand it be banned.

Vance & Trump are both clearly enemies of Europe. Which is fine. That will only make us stronger and force Europe to become what the world needs it to be. ✊🇪🇺

The walking disaster zone that is US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is now rapidly trying to walk back his “definitive” statement of two days ago that Ukraine has no future in NATO. “These negotiations are led by the President. Everything is on the table.” They’re all completely useless.

If you've got more money than you can spend then you didn't get it through your own hard work. Also where are these socialists that he's worried about?

There's something so low-rent about Vance at Munich that it's hard for Europe to feel attacked in the manner he intends. These guys are visibly not up to the task they think they've set themselves. I'd worry about their chaos more than their ideology.

Lib Dems not fucking around.

I thought badly of Brewdog before, but this is next level arseholery.

Exactly.

He makes Liz Truss sound like a genius.

This really has to happen and it should be One Eye.

There is no "special relationship". What is wrong with Starmer?

What you are seeing this morning over the refugee decision is Labour alienating and offending its remaining liberal supporters without bringing any new voters onside.

Nailed it 🏆

Well every cloud and all that, but it does seem to assume that fruits and vegetables just magically appear in the shops rather than also requiring immigrant labour to be harvested.

I stopped using Amazon last year, left Twitter and Instagram recently and am working on getting rid of WhatsApp & Facebook. Google will take a bit longer, but I have downloaded the DuckDuckGo browser today to try out. Google search has been rubbish for some time now so dumping that is no great loss.

I don't like him. But this is a good summary.

The curious thing about billionaires defying the rule of law and the orders of the court, is that their wealth depends entirely on enforceable legal rights: contract, property, and so on. Those saying court orders have no value need to be careful what they wish for.

Someone to listen carefully to: @johnwdean.bsky.social was a White House lawyer under Nixon, no less.

This alone is enough to condemn the current government.

1. Here are just a few of the ways in which Starmer’s Labour Party seems determined to alienate its voters and lose the next election. As they pile up, you have to keep pinching yourself and asking, “what the hell is it playing at?” 🧵
