Tomorrow, April 1, is Election Day in Wisconsin and Florida, and don’t be fooled: the stakes could not be higher. Luckily, Team Big Picture is here with all you need to stay informed.

Just in NIH grants, It looks like beautiful Iowa City, home of the U of Iowa, will lose $71m in funding. That's almost $1k per resident. And that's before all the other cuts to SSA, FDA, etc. Anyone in Iowa City that can offer more insight? scienceimpacts.org H/T to Prathima !

Today was yet another sad day for science. All U-RISE training programs, including the one at SJSU, got stop work orders. We've had a version of this program at SJSU for 30+ yrs. Devastating for the students who got their stipends & tuition pulled w no notice & for the future of science 🧪 1/

This is an understatement. We have already lost our scientific edge. Mass personnel cuts, lost grant support, gutting of pipeline programs, and the uncertainty about the future has already impacted our competitiveness and future generations of scientists. We just don’t see it yet. But we will.

From 2010 to 2016 (latest data I have ), NIH research contributed to EVERY drug approved by the FDA

In this interview Schumer says he agrees with Trump’s decision to pull $400 million from Columbia. A university in his own state. And he’s unconcerned about the unlawful arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, one of his constituents. He is a traitor who needs to resign.

This guy, who became rich off tax money, is fine now, but thinks other peoples pain is funny and cool. Tax elon

OK. What happened today is not great. But take heart! Now we shift to plan B: asking D Senators to shut down Senate business. This is a media relations game. Senators: act like this is a crisis so the public sees that it is a crisis. Many voters are unaware of the damage Trump and Musk are doing.

Check out my new post! I do an emergency video analyzing the current fight over govt spending and the sheer maddening missteps of Schumer and others adamkinzinger.substack.com/p/emergency-...

Cool so what happens if GOP attach a national abortion ban to a CR? You'll vote for that too? 🚮

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

KEEP CALLING! It’s working. Anyone can call Schumer BTW. Tell the dems to vote no on the Repub “continuing resolution”. Republicans own the White House, senate, and Congress. If they can’t negotiate a CR, let alone a budget, this is their shutdown. 5calls.org/issue/cr-con...

You can write #Schumer 's staff. Tell them that if Dems let the Trump-Musk budget through and betray the federal workers who have told us shutdown is better than the DOGE reign of terror, you will organize, not just primary opponents, but an immediate leadership challenge.

It’s not too late! Write to #Schumer. His chief of staff Mike Lynch ([email protected]), his deputy CoS ([email protected]), comms director ([email protected]) and press secretary ([email protected]).

New Yorkers: Call Sen. Gillibrand’s office to vote NO on cloture and NO on the Republican Spending Bill. They vote in the morning. ☎️: (202) 224-4451

@therickwilson.bsky.social has an urgent message for the Dems: SHUT IT DOWN! Watch:

If Chuck Schumer enjoys a single day in NYC for the rest of his life without being told to go fuck himself at least once, then NYC will have utterly failed as a society.

Congress not cede the POWER OF THE PURSE…. Call your senator now!!!! And keep calling.

@schumer.senate.gov please resign if you don’t have the courage of your convictions and are unwilling and unable to meet the moment

📌BREAKING: Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer just announced that he plans to vote to advance a government funding bill, which is a green light for Musk/Trump to continue terrorizing Americans. 📌I am calling for him to step down immediately. He is no damn leader.

I’ll be on CNN at 6 with @jaketapper.bsky.social to discuss Senate Democrats’ responsibility to protect the federal government and vote NO on cloture and the GOP spending bill

With an opposition party like this, what is the point?

Chuck Schumer, the top Democrat in the Senate, just caved—again. His support for the Republican CR plan isn’t leadership; it’s surrender. He’s not fighting for the American people. He’s propping up policies that will hurt us.

Schumer advocated for budget CR today, essentially giving White House decision making power on AMERICAS budget. Cutting Medicaid, social security, and SCIENCE would be no problem. Call and email your senator now if think this is a horrible idea, especially if you live in New York www.govtrack.us

This is very cool! AND I just can't believe @ucsusa.bsky.social got THAT MANY SCIENTISTS to agree on something!!! That's how you know it's serious, y'all. #standupforscience2025 @standupforscience.bsky.social www.ucsusa.org/about/news/s...

A clear discussion of the many misconceptions about the NIH. BOTTOM LINE: the war on science is misguided and will cost us our heath and our economy

I talked to NIH officials, current and former, about what's been happening inside the agency since the Trump administration shut down their grantmaking pipeline in January. Their stories showed just how willing our new leaders are to break the law: www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...

Some good-ish news from NIH “Federal Register notices for study sections run by CSR (but not those by ICs) will start being permitted again” As far as I know, the timing for this is not clear, but I will be checking the Federal Register.
