The next time someone advocates breaking end to end encryption, remind them that the agency which will have the key to the back door has been taken over by far right loons.

Best analysis I have read on the US UK no longer so special relationship. We do need to stop feeding the monster! Britain has been paying a high price for Uncle Sam’s craziness. It’s time to turn to Europe | Simon Tisdall | Simon Tisdall

Like all bullies, Trump backs down in the face of people more resolute and braver than him.

I continue to be appalled at the lack of accountability around the SLAPP case that targeted me. If I can get sued for saying a warlord sanctioned by the EU, UK, and US for his role in Wagner is involved with Wagner then can we really say there's any protection for journalists in the UK from SLAPPs?

Latest from PMQs on rumours the UK govt will scrap the digital services tax to appease Trump/Musk

When scholars of authoritarianism and fascism leave U.S. universities because of the deteriorating political situation here, we should really worry.

This satirical post seems to have caught the mood overnight, with heavy likes, and with many seeing it as all too plausible. One worry is that it will now become an urban myth and believed to be true. A greater worry, which cannot easily be dismissed, is that it is actually true.

It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

Military chiefs from most NATO and EU countries met in Paris yesterday to discuss new security arrangements. The US wasn’t invited. It was a closed door meeting and there’s been no announcement of outcome but with both Australia and Japan in attendance we seem to be seeing a new alliance forming.

First piece of cybersecurity advice to high-risk actors: use end-to-end encryption, WHEREVER it’s available. Unfortunately though, the 🇬🇧 Foreign Office is at least complicit in their Home Office colleagues’ war on #E2EE. Brits can of course no longer use Apple’s iCloud version #ADP 🤬

One odd thing about all this is that that those who shout about wanting "de-regulation" are also clapping and cheering at tariffs, the one of the oldest forms of, well, regulating trade. Words are detached from concepts, no connections are being made. Muddled (lack of) thinking instead of policy.

Trump’s retaliation against law firms is having its predictable chilling effect. Punishing law firms for representing clients the president dislikes infringes on the 6th Amendment right to counsel of one’s choice and the 1st Amendment right to free association.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025. This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

Top trolling by the pub's new owner. 👏

Important future moment to focus on

This is clearly going to survive as a political matter given the existential security crisis facing Europe, and the UK’s ability become part of a nuclear umbrella for its neighbours. Please just don’t take the piss with onward personal data transfers to Trumpland, Starmer 🤦🏻‍♂️ #DAUBill

Telling, if obvious. Grok estimates "75-85% likelihood that Trump is a Putin-compromised asset, leaning toward the higher end (around 85%) due to the consistency of his behavior and the depth of historical ties." Nice one, @edkrassenn.bsky.social x.com/i/grok/share...

French Senator Claude Malhuret: "Washington has become Nero’s court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine... We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor."

Trump is helping the Kremlin kill even more Ukrainian civilians today. (Ukraine has never targeted Russian civilians, by the way) This is where we are now. The world's policeman has now joined the global gangsters #Rooting4Putin

I did exactly the same search on the redirect page. Yes indeed. Is there any guidance left on the NCSC site that would commend encryption and for others at high risk such as international NGOs, journalists and the like?

Look what's happening at the French Embassy in Washington DC.
