And here I am literally an hour ago mutating levels to do the exact same thing - this is much easier

Latest post on measles vaccines and the fallacy of ‘one more study to settle things’: kucharski.substack.com/p/a-wild-vac...

One of the two cases I worked that really demonstrated how powerfully transmissible measles is - someone contracting after passing through an airport terminal about an hour after an infectious individual

The amount of genomic data we have access to for this virus is just amazing

see, this plane got measles and was perfectly fine

"but why doesn't it look exactly the same - what are you doing wrong" 🤣😭😭

Abruptly halting TB treatment (which takes 6+ months) not only causes death and suffering from the disease, but is the best way to generate new drug resistant strains of the disease, excellent job

Oklahoma reports first measles cases linked to growing Texas outbreak Two people with reported exposure associated with the Texas and New Mexico outbreaks now have symptoms. www.cidrap.umn.edu/m...

Not the most important thing but Elon always looks like he'd be really damp. Like, you know if you went to shake his hand, you'd be like "Oh, did you just wash your hands?" And he would laugh while you stood there horrified wondering why his hand felt like an uncooked chicken breast.

Vitamin A does not (!) protect against measles and is only beneficial as part of treatment in limited situations. If someone is considering supplementation it's important to know fat-soluble vitamins (like vit A) carry higher toxicity risks and need to be given with care

Finally can upload this here.

A little treat a day keeps the savings away

Excellent 🧵

must rock being a cybertruck guy. every time you pull up it’s like beep beep make way for the Ambassador of Divorce

This is guaranteed to be an exercise in cherry-picked statistics and bad-faith science because all of the other types of study have been done and they didn't find the results that the current HHS head likes.

This makes me so tired. Anyone who actually cares about autism research knows that we are endlessly held back because we keep beating this dead horse SMFH

And while the CDC is planning another vaccines-autism study, they've added this to their page in order to further drive mistrust in vaccination and likely lead to threats of ACIP members.

Oldie but still goodie

"The first guest on Gavin Newsom's podcast was Charlie Kirk" is more than enough for me to say "absolutely not" to any suggestion Newsom play any role in the future of the Democratic Party. People like him are the past, the failures, the ones who got us here.

Let's talk about this Nature piece in more detail. I've rarely read something so anti-scientific anywhere short of the National Review. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

The idea the president alone can levy taxes on a whim and spend it as he pleases without any congressional approval is the kind of thing so beyond the pale it's not unconstitutional, it's anti-constitutional. It is overturning in starkest terms the central rallying cry of the American Revolution.

you’re fired. wait you’re rehired. email us a list of things you’ve done today wait forget it you’re fired again. come back your job was important. you’re fired. or hired. come in to the office. wait the office has no computers go home. we are the department of government efficiency.

I wish Canada could remove it from the shelves here.

“His path to victory is to destroy the women he abused,” @lindseyboylan.bsky.social told the AP. “I’ll do everything within my power and my sense of ethics to make sure it doesn’t happen.” apnews.com/article/cuom...

Can confirm, many stupid ideas here

Look how my little art project with my daughter’s supplies turned out 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ever since @brettmartin.bsky.social told me about the oxtails at Chicken's Kitchen across the river from New Orleans in Gretna I've been trying to get there, but when I finally did last month it was the collard greens that surprised me most, so I tried to replicate them (I think I got close)

Would like to note that the general tone on the skyline this morning has been way doomier and more pessimistic than it has been all week about the possibility of resistance. This is what the Democrats do to morale. This is what the Democrats are good at. Making resistance seem futile.

Rahm Emanuel covered up the murder of a Black teen, and shuttered public clinics and schools. Cuomo covered up COVID nursing home deaths and harassed women. These men heard "now is the time of monsters" and decided to attempt a comeback. They both belong in hell.

Hahaha

New from CDC (at least something is working) on Covid. For the first time, the LP.8.1 variant has taken the lead in the US, accounting for >40% of cases. The good news is current boosters work pretty well for inducing neutralizing antibodies against this variant www.thelancet.com/action/showP...

we may be one of the few pubs that got this headline right Trump And Vance Ambush Zelensky In Prelude To Betrayal talkingpointsmemo.com/news/trump-a...

New Jersey reports H5 avian flu cluster in cats The cats had no known exposure to infected poultry, livestock, raw milk, or raw meat, but roamed freely outdoors where they may have been exposed to wild birds or other animals. www.cidrap.umn.edu/a... Photo: Jimmy B/Flickr cc

you can really tell who’s never worked in the service industry based on who romanticizes the concept of the Small Business lol

This post and story are is based on a 2023 paper, but I’m nevertheless going to take it as an example of why Bluesky has become a delightful experience. It brings back the pleasure in knowledge-sharing that distinguished early Twitter.

Every mainstream attempt to grapple with the rise of Tate and other misogynist ideologues have posed them as a product of men’s despair. Few have posited them as an assault on women’s safety and dignity.

When you're suddenly desperate to convince people it's a good thing you drove the economy into recession.

RFK really missed the simplest lesson of LBJ’s career, try not to get any kids killed if your name rhymes with “how many kids did you kill today”

It's been so long since I worked with measles that I almost forgot about this but Dr Panthagani is 100% right to warn about this

This vaccine just keeps winning.

Thoughtful 🧵. This is exactly the kind of thing that could get through the Senate because people are unaware of the full consequence

The biggest lesson from COVID was that the vast majority of Americans were asked to make a small sacrifice in support of a massive common good and said "fuck that, I'm never doing that again."

Also led to the killings of other health workers! Real feather in our cap, that gambit was. slate.com/human-intere...

Holy shit. Jeff Bezos is turning the Washington Post editorial page into.... the Wall Street Journal editorial page.
