This is terrifying antisemitism, while Nazi salutes are ‘straight-armed gestures’.

Once again the most antisemitic presidency in generations, an administration with *actual Nazis* on staff, is determining which Jews are Jewish and which are degenerates (hint: the latter = the vast majority of American Jews)—with the added bonus of using "Palestinian" as a slur.

When fascists threaten to destroy your institution, you don't thank them and promise to be less worthy of destruction. You tell them to fuck off in the strongest way possible

“My brain gets hot like an old laptop” is a great line

A great book on this is “Philosophy of Antifascism” and “Genealogies of Antifascism” both by Devin Shaw @dzshaw.bsky.social

This crisis only exists because Liberal, Conservative, and NDP govts at the provincial level have consistently worked to reduce their funding for post-secondary, letting highly-paid presidents hold the institutions together on high tuition and exploited faculty. The crisis is a choice.

Does anyone seriously still not believe these guys are fascists? All of those Canadian conservatives wearing #MAGA hats have to answer for this. #cdnpoli #cpc #ucp

Since Steve Bannon is back in the news, here's a book by somebody who calls his work for what it is.

No context Francis Jeanson: "But we live our whole life with this experience of disappointment."

Yves Engler is a committed researcher-activist who consistently stands up for the rights of people in countries targeted by the Canadian rich. He has been a tireless advocate for Palestinian people and he is facing charges for it. Support him: actionnetwork.org/letters/drop...

One of the most powerful books I've ever read, I can not recommend it highly enough.

Unpopular opinion, but people thinking Mexican and Cdn govts played Trump by agreeing to what was already in place (border securitization) are misreading ideological dimension of far right rise Anti migrant racism is cross party, but openly conceding it here entrenches it as "common sense" racism.

Great review from Devin Shaw! @dzshaw.bsky.social

My review of @joanbraune.bsky.social's excellent book, Understanding and Countering Fascist Movements, has been published by Symposium: www.c-scp.org/2025/02/04/j...

Zero likes for the post supports my point in a way.

The main way I can tell that Francis Jeanson is not in vogue is that I buy used copies and the sellers send them along and two ended up being signed, inscribed copies--not advertised that way, and certainly not priced like they thought the signature had value.

Take it from a union guy: International recruitment reached the proportions it did because int'l fees covered the gap in the lack of public funds. For years, post-secondary faculty associations have pointed this out and advocated for increased public funding for the social good of education.

This is a great starting point!

This is a great idea and I’m glad it’s coming to fruition.

As I argue in Philosophy of Antifascism, Sartre and Beauvoir both had important things to say on this point, although they really would have benefited from engaging Du Bois's work (which wouldn't have been beyond the realm of possibility given their friendship with Richard Wright).

On @threewayfight.bsky.social: Paul Bowman's review of Alberto Toscano's "Late Fascism." Bowman highlights how Toscano brings lesser-known theorists (such as Furio Jesi) into the discussion. However, Toscano's "racial fascism" fails to handle antifascist practice. threewayfight.org/review-of-al...

A great review of @shaneburley.bsky.social and @benlorber8.bsky.social's book Safety Through Solidarity. I just finished the book and I agree with Lyons's judgment that "it's the best book-length discussion of antisemitism and how to combat it that I know of."

For and Against Existentialism: the Big Debate (1948), featuring several authors you’ve never heard of. Where my research takes me…

He made it to 96.

My latest book, Genealogies of Antifascism, is one of the books that you can get at 50% off. leftwingbooks.net/products/gen...

This picture is a metaphor for the generational shift among public intellectuals in France (Pictured: Foucault speaks into a bullhorn over Sartre's shoulder, who is being interviewed by a journalist with a microphone, and seems to be moving his head aside to make room, or lessen the noise)

Sartre, don’t stand so close to the bullhorn!

As a reaction to this, I get way overly precise (or pedantic?).

This good—I saw @professorstas.bsky.social basically give this as a lecture in November.
