Treason.

He had sane advisors in his first term; now, only yes-men who obey his every whim. His whims are often cruel, pro-Putin, and pro-corruption. He’s going full-on Mad King.

Excellent point. I think it’s a mistake to assign a strategy to what he’s doing—he’s going full-on Mad King. He likes being cruel; he likes Putin; he likes tariffs, which remind him of a mafia racket. He just wants to play Teflon Don on TV.

I’d like to know when the so-called deep state will step up and push back against this. I won’t hold my breath.

Trump is a traitor.

I was making that comparison just this afternoon. I wonder what Schell thinks of Wang Huning’s take on the Cultural Revolution, and the ideas he had for ensuring it never happened again.

Is Trump more like Putin, or more like late-90s Yeltsin?

“Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression.”

Trump thinks autarky is a viable economic idea.

Stands to reason that the propaganda won’t stop at personal statements. Now that they’ve seized the agencies, they’ll cook every book to skew the numbers favorably.

Good thing the deep state’s real and will fight back against all of this. Any day now.

Someone needs to stand up and lead. Right now, the party lacks the strong leadership necessary to seize this energy and act on it. Jeers and protests won’t stop the looting and pillaging of the federal government and its agencies. Republicans in congress are unlikely to be moved by any of this.

This is so unbelievably, self-sabotagingly cruel and grotesque.

I’m so tired of this charlatan and his cult of morons.

I worry that our democracy lacks the energy to fight off the Trumpist threat.

That means yes, he is, and he knows it.

That’s exactly the dynamic. Everything with Trump is just for show; he’s inhabiting his character from The Apprentice. Elon feeds off of it in an act of mutually-reinforced toxic narcissism. The Gadsden snake is swallowing its own tail.

I agree. Unfortunately, I don’t think our democracy has the energy to radically restructure along those lines. What, then, can be done?

Silence cedes the message. But walking out mid-speech is a great idea.

These so-called reporters have no historical consciousness at all.

While Xi, impassive, turns his gaze toward Taiwan.

It serves the purpose of normalizing all of this.

It’s projection. There’s something deeply, psychologically weird about Trump supporters en masse.

I sometimes think this country has become too stupid to responsibly self-govern. Even journalists don’t know fairly basic civics.

He’s just so stupid.

They can read it. They chose servility.

The NY Times has clearly decided to abrogate its civic duty. Their normalization of an ongoing authoritarian power-grab is a severe public harm.

Reprehensible.

Authoritarianism is easy when facts can be conveniently ignored. The media let him get away with this.

If the “deep state” were real, it’d be getting more than attention.

The straw man fallacy is a fascist specialty.
