I think part of it is his winning the general-- too many Dem electeds have pivoted to "well we need to appeal to his voters, now" and pinned their hopes on econ policies he's slow walking. Meanwhile the c3/c4s that would normally push protest are scared of martial law and loss of nonprofit status.

I had a woman who took all my kids’ books about pride off display and threw them in the book drop. Joke’s on her. Any time you throw something in the book drop or hide something, we have to scan it back in. That’s a circ, which means they’re more likely to order more copies.

The thing about the chaos tonight is that a lot of different parts of the government are pushing back on Musk. Very easy to imagine him having to pick between trying to fire an absurd, untenable number of people or backing down after having made a big threat and looking weak.
