Barcelona also recycled their roof following the redevelopment of the Camp de Les Corts in 1944. The existing cover had stood since the ground opened in 1922, but was dismantled & replaced by Eduardo Torroja's incredible cantilevered roof.

...the roof would gain a new lease of life when UE Lleida purchased the cover and finally erected it at the Camp d'Esports in 1962. It remained in place until the stadium was redeveloped in 1993, following the club's ascent to La Primera.

Of course, the unstable nature of the senior clubs in Palencia hasn't helped matters. Two have been dissolved since the Nueva Balastera opened, and two more currently share the stadium in the Tercera division.
If one of these club's had been successful, would we look at it differently?

The counter argument is that lacks heart and amenities. The interior is rather anodyne and the stadium's neutral colour scheme certainly could do with a good splash of Palencia-purple. Then there's the cost. Built in 2006 for €18m, its 8,100 capacity comes in at €2.25k per seat.

On the plus side, there's no doubt that the Estadio Nueva Balastera is visually striking. Its neubrutalist design manages to both exaggerate & simplify what is expected of a stadium. Then there's its transformation when the stadium hosts a night match. It certainly has Phwoar Factor!

At a projected cost of €70m, the rebuild will result in a slight decrease in capacity and will necessitate Betis vacating the stadium for the next two seasons & head across the Rio Guadalquivir to the renovated (and track-less!) Estadio La Cartuja.

For the first time, all the seating at the Estadio Benito Villamarín will be under cover, with the addition of a ring-compressed poly-carbonate roof. Similar in design to Atléti's Metropolitano, the front edge of the roof will incorporate floodlighting and video screens

A new main stand will include new changing rooms, a gym, media facilities, hospitality suites and 4,000 VIP seats. Externally, the creation of a striking new façade will increase in the clubs commercial activity.

If this finally results in getting the Nou Mestalla project completed, then great.
However, I can't help thinking that 20+ years on from starting the project, VCF will end up with a stadium that will look and feel older than the original design.

The design lacks the flair and panache of the original project (and some of the other redesigns that never happened!), but the aim is to have it ready for the start of the 2027-28 season, and possibly get a late invite to the 2030 World Cup.

How will it be financed? A €180m loan from Goldman Sachs and €80m from La Liga's deal with CVC Capital Partners will go towards the €360m relaunch of the project. Once complete, the land on which the current Mestalla stands, will be sold.
