A national cryptocurrency reserve is a scam. It is simply an attempt by those who own cryptocurrency to trade it for US dollars or gold from the Treasury. The federal government will be left holding this bag of hazardous waste.

If you're ever feeling despair, and someone comes along with a simple solution to your complex problem, beware.

Almost 800,000 people on here are following a totally-not-real account claiming it's a group of rogue park workers and who are now posting cryptic nonsense to make it seem like they're sending messages to the deep state. Also they're selling resistance merch. WTF are we doing man?

The point of excluding categories of people from the military like this is to send the message that they are unworthy of citizenship, it is pure bigotry and the assumptions behind it are disproven by the honorable service of the people being targeted in the first place bsky.app/profile/bran...

No one had died of measles in America for ten years, until yesterday. That 2015 death in WA was preceded by a 12y period of no US deaths. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt... HHS Secretary RFK Jr. says it’s “not unusual.” apnews.com/article/meas... It is unusual. www.cdc.gov/measles/data...

could God create incentives so strong that He could not resist them

this is good

Carola Binder!

There are so many reasons university endowments can't make up for the dramatic cuts the Trump administration has planned for science. Here are a few. Thanks to @donmoyn.bsky.social for the platform.

okay genuine question: suppose that all the gold from ft knox was, in fact, missing. what would be the economic effects of that revelation?

i'm going to go buy an x account and go undercover as a fake reactionary account to see if i can get musk to believe the word gullible isn't in the dictionary

The world's top network of labor economists—@iza.org—will close permanently at the end of this year. What a loss to research. Especially now when the rising waters of disinformation choke truth. It is up to us, now, to begin the work to rebuild. www.deutsche-post-stiftung.org/media/202502...

School play gets canceled for "inappropriate content". In response students write [REDACTED], their own anti-censorship play skewering the school district, sells out performances, and ultimately takes gold at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival. www.kqed.org/arts/1397192...

I really wish Americans would stop treating the continued existence of Canada as the sort of thing they can do amusing thought experiments about.

Extremely nickelback first draft voice:

The Federal Reserve is not as independent from the executive branch as we’d like to think. The NY Fed just cancelled this Thursday’s @aeacswep.bsky.social reception at #EEA2025 and withdrew from our summer fellowship program. Both support women and underrepresented groups in economics. #EconSky

A lot of crazy stuff in the Education Department’s letter but did Trump just make it illegal for schools to be test-optional?

THREAD 🧵: A Concerning Trend in the Heterogenous-Agent (HA) Macro Literature 1/n A growing class of computational algorithms makes heavy use of linearization methods to solve HA models. Two key benefits are emphasized: (i) (extreme) speed & (ii) allows many state (aggregate) variables. ++ #econ

Here is Ford's head of North America communications, informing us about the source of America's pedestrian safety crisis: Streetlights They've apparently gotten much worse in the last 15 years. Or something. It definitely has nothing to do with the gigantic SUVS & trucks that his company sells.

Just got word that our Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence 3 (IE3) Grant was being canceled. All 100+ institutions. So even private funding is susceptible to this administration’s unraveling of DEI initiatives

USAID’s website has been deleted, all that is left is a note saying all personnel are now on administrative leave and personnel outside the US are to be brought home. Completely illegal, no act of congress or even executive order was signed to dismantle the agency

The Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics, a great org, asks individuals & orgs to sign their letter requesting Congress act to restore data that has been removed & ensure a similar purge does not reoccur. #EconSky #PolicySky #sociology #PoliSky docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Passing on a note from a colleague: People with federal student loans should download their files IMMEDIATELY. These files are currently on the studentaid.gov website, which may get deleted if Trump follows through with his EO to shut down DOE

hey @amyklobuchar.com , as your constituent, I'm pretty disappointed by this!

The data at USAID's ForeignAssistance dot gov was removed over the weekend, but it seems to be back (for now). As a backup, I've uploaded the data both as static CSV files and a queryable API - Details: andrewheiss.github.io/foreignassis... - API: foreignassistance-data.andrewheiss.com

@ipums.bsky.social undefeated

i love that in addition to everything else, elon musk is the dumbest asshole on the planet

Musk has had no problem naming individual federal employees he thinks should be fired (see article). Now he wants anonymity and zero oversight for his officials who are creating a constitutional crisis. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/fake-jobs-...

Federal law & decades of government practice provide Americans strong guarantees of confidentiality & security for their govt data. With POTUS's blessing & federal pardon power behind them, individuals appear to be violating our rights, corrupting systems meant to operate for our benefit.
