Real ID requires a passport or other proof of citizenship and is only required for boarding domestic flights or entering federal facilities. If you’re not going to do that you do not need one.

There’s a fee to get any type of ID in this country as far as I know. Birth cert is prob $20, I know passport is ~$150 (app fees, photo fees etc). They’re making things harder for the already struggling voters on purpose.
