Just picked up on an interesting schism. ትቤ አክሱም መኑ አንተ & የካም መታሰቢያ, both by Asres Yenesew and printed in 1951. ትቤ is typeset with Ethiopic Wordspace, but not የካም. The difference might be the publishing house, ንግድ ማተሚያ ቤት (አዲስ አበባ) vs አሥመራ በኮከብ ጽባሕ ማተሚያ ቤት. Which tracks with the geographic divide.

Enjoying the return of the BL's 15th century, Or. 711 (ገድለ ገብረ መንፈስ ቅዱስ, iiif.bl.uk/uv/#?manifes...) this morning. The more you immerse into it, the more beautiful you come to realize the strokes are. መ, ቤ, ለ, ወ, ረ … all of it. The scribe uses the conjunctive ፲ generously (f.4v).

A draft work depicting the hymn that Saint Yared was chanting for Emprorer Gebre Meskel in his moment of awe. Sung in Araray (ዓራራይ, lower level) mode vs Ezil (ዕዝል, upper level). The year is a guess/placeholder for now (assumes St. Yared is 25 years old) while I review some more detailed sources.

Hoping my Germanophone connections can help clear this up. In Prof. Siegbert Uhlig's "Äthiopische Paläographie", describes a mark as "Zitationszeichen", Google translates this as "citation mark". In his "Introduction to Ethiopian Paleography" the term is "question mark" -is this a mistranslation?
