Trump does not have any guiding principles except how things make Trump look. If he takes us into a war with Iran, there are only a few reasons why: He thinks it makes him look tough. He thinks it will help him hold the house and Senate in the midterms. He thinks it will help him stay in office

Academics & others need to understand a few things. A 🧵 I) First, fascism is not inevitable. Research on autocratic movements show that only about 3,5% of the population need to resist to stop them. Fascism thrives on the silence of the friends. That why visible resistance matters. 1/

Under the Trump administration, America is retreating from hard power, surrendering soft power, and yielding economic power, David A. Graham writes in The Atlantic Daily. Is this what greatness looks like?

I'm not saying journalists should never interview admitted propagandists. There are journalistic reasons to do so. But if we do, we must be prepared to -- in fact it is our duty to -- challenge vociferously all unsubstantiated claims. Otherwise, we ourselves become propagandists.

I just got this very real Facebook friend request. His profile is 58 minutes old.

I have tariffed the penguins that are on Heard Island and which you were probably assuming did not export goods forgive me they were taking advantage of us so cunning and so cold

Camellias thrived through the harshest winter we’ve had, thanks to my son’s cold frames. And I’m sharing my hyacinths for some cheer today, they smell amazing. #GardenSunday @stateofstlouis.bsky.social

Wore my favorite shirt from Heather to #HandsOffSTL today.

As a federalist who believes strongly in states' rights, I have no problem with Donald Trump's executive order giving the office of the presidency full control of all elections.

I don’t think Trump is in charge anymore. He got his payout in crypto the night before the inauguration. All of this is Thiel, Musk, Vought et al.

Pete Hegseth brought his wife to his meetings with senators so it would be awk to ask him about his alleged sexual misconduct www.wsj.com/politics/nat...

There was a signal about Signal

If your plan is to keep your head down and hope it goes away, I can show you all of human history why it won’t work. If it’s to capitulate and hope they ignore you, I can show you thousands of Trumpers who’ve already lost their jobs & savings. Fighting back isn’t an option. It’s the only option.

That’s pretty much it

A Skadden attorney resigned today, citing the firm’s decision to strike a deal with Trump amid pressure campaign on law firms. “[I]f my employer cannot stand up for the rule of law, then I cannot ethically continue to work for them,” the former Skadden lawyer, Brenna Trout Frey, wrote on LinkedIn.

Israeli officials furious that Signal group chat exposed intelligence, sources say t.co/HVaAyKCLAr

Trump officials may have compromised a human source of Israeli intelligence. Then DNI Gabbard and DCIA Ratcliffe said there was no classified intel information in the chat. I’m sure the Israelis are livid. Not that this is the first time that a Trump admin has screwed Israeli intel like this.

Get in the loop, Chuck. It’s your goddamn job. www.yahoo.com/news/top-rep...

AND THERE IT IS FOLKS (Not a "this is an unimportant" distraction, a "quick do something shocking and horrific and genuinely dangerous" distraction)

The most obvious lesson to draw from the leaked Signal chat is that these people really are morons. It's not a public act, it's not a schtick, there's not some secret back room where they drop the facade. They are genuinely stupid, incompetent people.

This is an attack on the rule of law. If a country seizes people with valid documents for detention and refuses to abide by any judicial process for it, that country is fundamentally lawless. That the detention is indefinite and in a foreign labor prison makes it even more so.

I will just reiterate -- even though doing so has long since become pointless -- that keeping these current lunatics out of office was an entirely sufficient argument for voting Dem up and down the ballot. People who didn't do so should feel bad about themselves.

“The highest level of fuckup imaginable.” - Pete Buttigieg 🎯

There’s always that one person in the group chat who communicates 50% in emoji. We made that person the National Security Adviser.

Pete Hegseth is a danger to this country and our men and women in uniform.

This may be the best thing on the internet today.

I mean very obviously Hegseth should resign, and if it were a Democratic administration this would be quickly be a consensus position.

If DUI Petey walks the plank tonight, we’ll know Trump is panicking about how out of touch he looks.

If you ever wondered how the KGB manipulated foreigners and got them to repeat Soviet propaganda, spend some time listening to Steve Witkoff talk about his wonderful conversations with Vladimir Putin.

Trump’s guy Witkoff says “there’s two sides to every story” about Putin killing political opponents. 😳 Compromised.

Heritage president Kevin Roberts, in a truly revealing passage of his Foreword to the Project 2025 policy agenda, states that the project of “dismantling the administrative state” is not about the actual size of government at all. The goal is to cut “the secret lifeblood of the Great Awokening.”
