Don't be intimidated by the number of questions - you do NOT have to answer them all. You can answer as many or as few as you like, and the ALCS has nice, simple guidance and advice for answering the important ones. www.alcs.co.uk/news/your-ri...

This is very important, and the deadline for filling in the form for the government consultation is today (25th Feb). If you're an author, or if you feel that creators should not be robbed of control over their own copyright, please consider filling this form.

I'm honoured and delighted that ISLAND OF WHISPERS, my collaboration with brilliant illustrator Emily Gravett, is on the longlist for the Carnegie Medal for Writing! carnegies.co.uk/2025-longlis...

Had a lovely evening at the launch for @kimecurran.bsky.social's THE MORRIGAN at Books on the Rise in Richmond. (I'm assuming Kim uses her feathery jacket to change into her raven form.)

UK writers: if you haven't yet responded to the government's AI consultation (& don't feel like giving away your copyright), the @alcs-uk.bsky.social have produced some really helpful advice ⤵️ www.alcs.co.uk/news/your-ri...

I've filled in this form, responding to the government's consultation on AI's use of creative works for training purposes. Other UK-based writers might want to consider doing likewise. You don't have to fill in every question - the ALCS has some useful guidance. www.alcs.co.uk/news/your-ri...

Some lovely news - ISLAND OF WHISPERS is on the USBBY International Book List for 2025! www.usbby.org/outstanding-...

PSA FOR AUTHORS: some dipshit put a pirate edition of my new book on Apple Books with a "50% OFF" medallion on the cover illo. They used an obscure unicode glyph in the author name so that searches for "Charles Stross" find it but the bookstore won't merge it. Where there's one there'll be others!

I'm assuming you have your own preferred news sources for keeping current with the ongoing appalling everything, so I'll aim to share things to put in the positive side on the scales. Here's an article about independent bookshops in Yorkshire. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

THE LIE TREE is included in @Independent's list of the 30 best books for children! I'm staggered and flattered to see my book listed with so many wonderful classics. www.independent.co.uk/arts-enterta...

Still disappointed every time I receive an envelope marked 'On His Majesty's Service' that isn't recruiting me to become a spy.

I did it again! Jurassic Park with accurate raptors, a short part 2 #jurassicpark #blender3d

Let me tell you about the weird business that delivers art into our lives, and the impact it has on the long-term careers of artists. This is a thread prompted by yet another article on authors' incomes, and the inevitable reactions from the 'people-would-pay-if-it-was-worth-it-to-them' brigade. 1/

I love the word murmuration, but starlings don't murmur. They skree and skroyl and skrivver.
