Right but from reports they offered both very large long term deals. They didn’t get either player in the end but doesn’t mean they weren’t willing to give both mega deals. I think where the team has failed is knowing when to get uncomfortable with a guy they cover. Too disciplined I’d say

Or maybe they don’t want to give long term big money deals to declining players in their 30s? It’s certainly on brand for the Sox only giving long term deals to players in their mid 20s like Soto/Yamamoto. Really not hard to understand their philosophy.

I mean, is there there any chance the Sox sign Fried for a 5 or 6 year deal? The Sox have been adamant for years that they are NOT going to sign pitchers over 30 to long term deals. We can all disagree with that notion but they've been very consistent with this messaging.

I think there's just so many ways this offseason could go. I do think they are planning to focus massively on pitching but trades are going to happen to free up roster spots. I'm happy with Devers at 3B but if someone offers you the moon for Casas, you have to listen right?
