The meeting went on fine for about 40 minutes, despite numerous disagreements between Trump and Zelensky that were managed relatively professionally by both of them... Then Vance started talking, called Zelensky disrespecful, and things went south from there.

Directing military forces and especially commanding large-scale combat operations is not a trivial task, as @hoanssolo.bsky.social has written in his recent book.

It‘s not just that the people who reassured allies at MSC will be gone. Somebody also needs to command U.S. military forces and U.S. military operations in case of armed conflict. If they fire one general after another (and keep continue doing that with staff officers), who will be left?

Our European allies can act, too. The most powerful step they can take is to actually seize the $300 billion in Russian sovereign assets they've frozen before Trump tries to surrender them. That would immediately give Europe leverage in negotiations. 7/

In the land domain, there is no need to buy American at all.

Yes. And I believe this is why Europe needs to be smart on what to procure from the US and what to buy domestically, rather than trying to replicate everything. In the air domain, I think it makes more sense to buy American for the high-end and domestically for the low-end.

It is back online now. Perhaps just a technical glitch?

If I were Russia or China and it was so clear that strategic missile defense doesn’t work: Shouldn’t I be very happy about the United States pouring trillions of dollars into vapourware rather than real military capabilities?

On the @scientistsorg.bsky.social blog, @nukestrat.bsky.social and @mattkorda.bsky.social reported that the B61-13 was “not related to current events or developments in China, Russia, or other potential adversaries,” though.
