NEW: Per a source at HUD, there are plans out there to cut staff at the agency by almost 50 percent, far beyond the “probationary” bullshit. This hasn’t started yet though, to be clear. I have seen numbers for sub-offices that exceed 70 and 80 percent cuts in some cases. “Really devastating.”

Federal workers are being laid off through the weekend. I’ve been in back-to-back calls with people told to clear their desks. I spoke to someone today with MS in rural Oregon who has no idea what other job he can do. He expects more people to be laid off tomorrow, on Presidents’ Day.
