Ha we won’t if those things ever become mainstream. Quantum computers need to be COLD, near absolute zero, which is -273.15 °C/459.67 °F. It’s not even that cold in outer space. I guess we’ll have to wait for radioactive elements to decay and make more gas or syphon it from the sun

It might not come: these computers need helium to work, they have to be kept at extremely cold temperatures for the quantum state to remain stable. The world is running out of helium.

I’m not sure whether it was intentional or not but the movie theatre montage interspersed with the Oscar speech made me think of Dogville’s end credits, thought it made for a wonderful homage.

Of course! I meant no choice as in: if a US politician wants to make it anywhere, esp. the top job, they have to toe the party line and be pro-Israel. Biden/Harris wouldn’t get their nominations otherwise. Republicans are even worse. This is why I could never get into politics.

I don’t think Biden/Harris had much choice since Israel is technically a US vassal state, with powerful lobby groups to make sure it stays that way. Then why give awards to No Other Land in the first place? To pat themselves on the back? It’s all so disgusting.

It’s such a non-statement! The film industry is in such a bad shape that they’re afraid of saying anything that’s out of step with the current US foreign policy. It doesn’t excuse the cowardice or putting politics before their commitment to the arts but that’s the state of things.

That’s true, I keep conflating the membership and the leadership, my bad.

It’s abhorrent. Palestinian identity is the heart of the documentary and the fact that other Palestinians were beaten up is absolutely related to it. I doubt the Academy would stand up for Ukrainian filmmakers, considering the film they chose as Best Picture.

The Academy issued a statement but wouldn’t support Hamdan Ballal publicly: “We were told that because other Palestinians were beaten up in the settler attack, it could be considered unrelated to the film, so they felt no need to respond.”

There’s no mention of people ruining the theatrical experience by being inconsiderate slobs in this article either.

The link below popped up when I googled the film, it’s for a screening at the Cinematheque from October 2020. I wasn’t allowed to attend because I’m permanently banned from this place. The irony of it is so funny — I’d get arrested, me a Czech immigrant, if I showed up and tried to buy a ticket.

This got me thinking about Věra Chytilová’s Prefab Story. It’s thematically similar to the Dekalog but not so depressing and it’s a breezy 90 minutes.

Czechs (unlike our Polish friends) are godless heathens, so much so that the Pope doesn’t even visit. Most of them don’t really think about morality, it’s a society ruled by money, greed and jealousy. Needless to say, living in these apartments made for a miserable childhood.

I can’t speak for OP but sometimes just showing up and doing the bare minimum is all it takes.
