EU would most likely use that as a justification to size the €200bn so that isn't necessarily an advantageous outcome for russia either.

UK GDP in 2024 was £2,848bn. 2.3% of that is £65.5bn. Increasing that to 3% of GDP would cost an additional £20bn. So the £21bn figure is bang inline factoring in inflation come 2027.

If going from 2.3% to 2.5% is £6bn then each 0.1% is £3bn and 7*3=21.

You say it brings in £0.5bn so doubling it would presumably bring kn £1bn. Labour are giving the MoD £6bn to increase defense spending from 2.3% to 2.5% of GDP, so I don't know how Ed Davey thinks an extra £0.5bn from digital services tax is going to find the £21bn needed to go from 2.3% to 3%.

The Labour Budget scored very highly on the “how do we get re-elected?”-o-meter. It focus grouped brilliantly and the immediate polling all liked it. (Obviously: “taxing businesses to put more money into the NHS” is popular, duh.) And well, now look how that is ageing.

Just a byproduct of the Tory vote share already being so abysmal last July.

The mercator is an amazing map. It projects a sphere onto a flat surface conformally. The point of a map is for navigation, and any map that doesn't preserve angles is basically useless for this.

How? Every time UHC denies a claim, his family is hurt, arguably he's reinforcing his class alignment! Health systems are big businesses too!

If you knew this information in advance, there is literally no benefit to waiting until after the budget to act on it. (Unless you want to engage in actual insider trading) l.

Calling this insider trading is ridiculous. Even if they'd been acting on inside information (and not making a coincidental decision which many farmers make), there is virtually no benefit. The only effect is they need to live for 2536 days to avoid IHT as opposed to 2556 days 😮😮😮😮🤯.

It's sill an issue for them, but this should mitigate it somewhat.

I reckon they will keep their criticism of Labour concentrated on areas where this is less of a problem, eg Winter Fuel payments. (Though VAT on private schools is a notable counter example).

On the other hand, they often have another 10% Lab vote to squeeze in these seats and these voters should be much easier for the Lib Dems to squeeze now they're the incumbent party.

They've lost too many seats to the Lib Dems that they'll really struggle to get back.
