they're not even particularly notable quality-wise as anime intros, but it's still so novel and fun to see the X-Men in that mode (and still sets them above the original intro in my mind)

my theory is that any two is fine. gnomes kind of move in to fill whatever ecological niche is left behind. if you remove dwarves, gnomes can lean into the craftsmanship and earth-elemental stuff, if you remove halflings, gnomes can lean into being the "fun ones"

I always bristle against this theory because Loran and Dianna read so chivalric romance-like to me, and in those stories, actually consummating the relationship is usually a moral failing (now that's also because the lady tends to be married there, like with Lancelot and Guenevere, but still)
