yeah, on 1/7 lots of Rs were talking about how Trump had to go. The delay gave them time to regroup; and, importantly, for Pence/Pelosi/Milley to reassure them that Trump was informally already removed from power and no longer a threat.

Yeah I love them. Even the first movie, while the plot is standard home invasion stuff, the themes and world building were extremely prescient for 2013 including the Richard Spencer villain. Like, this dude is just your standard CPAC speaker:

Well Pelosi, Pence, and Milley agreed that Trump was not in charge and gave everyone assurance that his orders would be ignored if he tried to attack the Senate again, to start a war, to launch nukes. They should have made it clear that we could all die at any moment until he was removed.
