Thinking about a revolution open.substack.com/pub/emptycit...

Well I'd like to thank JD Vance and Donald Trump for making perhaps the strongest case for rejoining the EU that I've seen in 9 years.

Must watch war speech by Justin Trudeau. Few outside of Canada understand our combination of civility, empathy and steel in our spine - this speech explains all that. Not a foul word spoken. Not one inch of retreat. Long Live Canada Vive Le Canada #ElbowsUp www.youtube.com/watch?v=83f4...

This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell. This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Ed Davey, "The Prime Minister Keir Starmer is I think actually doing a good job" "Having to deal with someone who is unreliable and unpredictable as President Donald Trump" "I feel for him"

As Donald Trump turns the United States into one of the closest allies Russia has worldwide, it's worth revisiting the news item below, which came out immediately after Trump won a surprising victory in November:

🔴‘Keir Starmer Must Accept These Hard Truths Before Meeting Donald Trump’ Before the Prime Minister heads to Washington he must wake up to the fact that the UK’s real allies may now lie elsewhere, argues UK diplomat Alexandra Hall Hall bylinetimes.com/2025/02/22/k...

Of all the things Elon Musk has said, this is the worst. We cannot rely on Trump and his shadow president Musk. The UK must boost defence spending and take the lead in Europe.

🔥 Merz wins - and AfD will NOT be in his coalition. Good!

An excellent thought for the day from Professor Brian Cox...

🚨Lib Dem win!🚨

Glad to see the government is listening to our calls for a Youth Mobility Scheme with the EU. This has to be the first step in fixing our broken relationship with the EU.

The bitch is back. I’ll be honest I was going to give it all up as it felt futile, I know what’s coming will be rough, and I’ve taken a beating in recent years. But… when good people do nothing, the bastards win. It’s on all of us to resist this nightmare, hard. My take… youtu.be/WWa1QzVOYjs

🔴 BREAKING: Campaign success as supporters welcome Starmer's offer of a two year Youth Mobility Scheme with the EU, in line with Best for Britain and the UK Trade and Business Commission proposals www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Calling Zelensky a “Dictator” must be where the line is drawn. It is my sincere hope that the whole political spectrum in the United Kingdom will speak with one voice in opposition to Trump’s lies.

Peter Kellner's article in @theneweuropean.bsky.social sets out the issues that Brexit has caused to the British economy before hitting this key argument: The problems come from being a third country. 1

There are now few pleasant ways out of this. American politicians need to find one of those ways.

1. Trump and his Death Eaters cannot tolerate any rival power. Europe, when united, is a major trading and diplomatic bloc. They see Russia (much less of a threat to US hegemony) as an excellent instrument for breaking up Europe, by threat or by force.🧵

MUSK: "We have social security going to people 150 years old" Computers represent dates as a number of seconds past an 'epoch'. For C, that epoch is midnight on 1 Jan 1970. For COBOL, it's May 20, 1875. For someone whose birthdate they don't know, it would be entered as 0. 150 years ago.

Of all the daft 'opinions' that Brexiters could never explain or justify, opposition to a mooted European army was among the stupidest. Inevitably, Farage the Putin fanboy was the loudest heckler. Armies that you are actually *in* rarely turn out to be opposed to your interests...

skywriter.blue/pages/did:pl...

He's right. The only people who don't want a 'European Army' are Mr Vladimir Putin and his apologists and useful idiots. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

🔥 AMAZING. Today, the Baltic states disconnected their power grids from that of Russia. It’s taken years of prep. What a moment.

A Youth mobility scheme will foster cultural exchange, build trust between nations & help to rebuild a UK-EU relationship that will drive economic growth & bolster security - isn’t that exactly what the Labour government pledged to do in its manifesto? So why oppose it? youtu.be/1y2RbbUg06c?...

Clarkson is right. Brexit has made travelling to the EU with any kind of professional equipment, nightmarish. Carnets for cameras etc is a bureaucratic, expensive waste of time. But it applies to loads of industries, esp musicians/performing artists etc. www.thetimes.com/article/5356...

Elon Musk and other tech oligarchs are making it impossible to conduct free and fair elections anywhere, @anneapplebaum writes. Can Europe stop their meddling?

Brexit & Beyond: Trump’s new world chaos offers possibilities for post-Brexit Britain: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/02/trum...

Trump just terminated the Chair of the Kennedy Center and has installed himself as the new chair. He says he will now be dictating the institution’s “art and culture” and says it “must reflect” what he chooses.

Christ. Hoey is so aggressively dim

For the likes of Hannan, Brexit never had much to do with the EU. It was always a Ladybird libertarian fantasy about returning Britain to the glory days of Empire. My late great friend Quarsan said Hannan was the biggest Brexit cultist he ever met. Next level stuff.

I used to think the excesses happening in the US couldn't happen here. The 2016 US election and Brexit changed my mind. Our parliamentary systems rely on trust and would not survive a Musk-like assault. Our MSM is even more compliant and ineffective. Don't think similar couldn't happen to us.

The most frustrating thing about continuing failure to skewer Farage is that his grasp of detail is non-existent. It’s why he gets petulant when exposed to even mildly decent questions. Interviewers just need to zone in on one element of the bullshit & interrogate it until his ignorance is exposed.

Reform hasn’t got to this point organically. They have got to this point via foreign money, Russian interference, disinformation, mass manipulation, disproportionate MSM coverage and being constantly massively boosted by right wing social media companies. There is fuck all democratic about it.

Donald Trump’s attempts to bully Denmark over Greenland, threatening a NATO ally with military force, are unacceptable and wrong. Keir Starmer should make clear our total solidarity when he meets with his Danish counterpart today.
