This skit is perfection youtu.be/ottkSQYunnk?...

Just had a neighbor complain their Christmas tree still hasn't been picked up. They said this is the kind of thing that makes people move away from DC.

This is a story about politics.

DC's Attorney General has filed a wage theft lawsuit against Cathedral Heights Italian restaurant Talea. The restaurant is accused of denying workers overtime pay and sick leave and firing those who spoke out.

Look - the cuts in federal employment might have an impact on real estate. But it's not observable yet. So don't pass along panic and misinformation.

So cops are threatening us?

For folks in DC with animal pals

Big, growing crowd just west of the U.S. Capitol protesting Trump, Musk and DOGE on President’s Day. “Hey Congress, grow a spine,” they shout, gathering for a rally around the reflecting pool.

Lots o folks here! #fiftyfiftyone #DCProtest

Anyone have information on how these staff and budget cuts are hitting Rock Creek Park?

“MaYbe shE’s goiNg to be in TroUble nOw” Maybe he can learn to read. The Constitution would be a good place to start

can confirm

Violent crime in DC has been steadily trending down for decades and fell to a multi-generational low in 2024. Every single article covering whatever the administration does this week should mention that fact and highlight the data. This is about power and control, not crime or public safety.

Does anyone know of a successful DC collaboration with the national park service to take care of and improve local parks? Does NPS cooperate with "friends of the park" groups at all?

I spy from the cleveland park library. Feeling cozy inside.

MAJOR BREAKING: Pope Francis has written a letter to US Bishops saying he’s following “major crisis” of “mass deportations;” takes on Vance saying “The true ordo amoris that must be promoted is that which we discover by meditating constantly on the parable of the “Good Samaritan”

I can’t believe the Supreme Court said the president was above the law and now the president is acting like he’s above the law.

This article mentions clearing homeless encampments in the headline and in half a sentence in this 600 word article. What precisely do we think is going to happen to these vulnerable people then? There is no shelter, no housing for them. Fucking report on it. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

Micromobility growth (shared bikes and scooters) in DC is really incredible. In 2024, growth was over 36 percent. That's making serious dent in traffic and pollution. It's also making the city healthier and more fun. Amazing. ggwash.org/view/98229/b...

High school students in Montgomery County, MD and Washington, DC can apply for a 6-week (June 23 to August 1) paid summer job in the conservation field with the Rock Creek Conservancy. Find out more: www.rockcreekconservancy.org/rc3.

Called and told my senators about how, when my mother’s identity got stolen, the CFPB’s intervention was the only thing that got the banks to shut down the accounts that had been illegally opened in her name

Neighborhood heroism and kindness. www.popville.com/2025/02/smal...

DC needs crossing guards to keep kids safe on their to and from school. It's a paid job and important. If it might be up your alley, look here: careers.dc.gov/psc/erecruit...

Unelected agents of a oligarch have seized core services of the state without legal sanction or authorization; yes, that's a coup

DC saw 15 million bike trips in 2024 on rental bikes alone. When including all the trips taken on personal bikes it's probably over 40 million total bike trips in the District! Biking to get around DC is mainstream now, DC is a biking city.

A USAID HR director sent out this email today to staff letting them know he was placed on administrative leave. “Today, representatives of the Agency's front office and DOGE instructed me to violate the due process of our employees by issuing immediate termination notices to a group of employees.”

I rebuke and condemn the monstrous and grotesque racism expressed by Trump & others in their ignorant and crass assignation of blame for this tragedy, which is an affront to Kiah Huggins’ life’s work. Signing off for the night.

RIP. Had some memorable meals there.

Important.

Historic preservation can collapse under the weight of it's own contradictions.

In the first deportation flight from EUA to Brazil, Brazilian Immigrants had handcuffs, ankle and waist cuffs. Adults and children were prevented to drink water or to eat. They were severely beaten while complaining. revistaforum.com.br/direitos/202...

Yesterday, in protest of Harvard University's response to the genocide in Gaza and deepening repression of campus activism against it, I submitted a letter of resignation from my job there. Here is that letter.

TY @petulawrites.bsky.social for Retropolis article on the history of how Woodrow Wilson and Albert Burleson in 1913 and brutally installed White supremacy in the Federal workforce. It fits with histories of racist acts- the action itself was bad enough, the details are even worse. wapo.st/42lamBs

The Rock Creek Conservancy needs a new Executive Director. What a cool job! You should apply. jobs.crelate.com/portal/kittl...

Errors of exclusion are at least as damaging as errors of inclusion. Citizens unable to vote v. ineligible people casting votes. I think there are many more of the former than the latter. Republicans think exclusion benefits them for some reason. Maybe they're right, but it's horribly unethical.

In October, Gov. Youngkin claimed he removed 1,600 noncitizens from Virginia's voting rolls. I was at the Arlington gov't building that day, when voters who'd been citizens all their lives came in to restore the status Youngkin had wrongly taken away. How many of the 1,600 turned out to be citizens?

Has anyone heard anything about The Line yet? I think the auction was scheduled for this morning @jessicasidman.bsky.social

Despite this injustice, we know that Karon’s life mattered. It mattered to his family, his loved ones, and his community — even if it did not matter to his government.

“While the richest 1% now own 45% of global wealth, 44% of humanity lives on less than $6.85 per day, and global poverty rates have barely changed since 1990, the report said... The wealth of the richest 10 billionaires grew by $100 million per day on average, over the last 10 years.”

Scoop: Elon Musk’s DOGE to be sued within minutes of Trump inauguration Lawsuit will say DOGE meets conditions for gov advisory counsel requiring balanced representation, open meetings, recorded minutes & more www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
