From one #Superman fan to another…

I’m excited for the next two weeks as our S2/3 ‘Character Ambassadors’ return to their primary schools to deliver an assembly to Primary 7 classes on our school value of empathy. I hope this will mark the beginning of many pupil engagement sessions on character with our Cluster schools.

Every single school should have a library & a librarian, to help every single child find the books that will make them readers, and give them all the lifelong benefits of literacy. Libraries & librarians change children's lives FOREVER! #literacy #libraries #librarians

I have been a doctor for over 4 years now. Working in general practice is rewarding, and I wouldn’t change my job. However, the complexity of the work is immense. Articles like this make me wonder why we continue when we are demonised no matter how hard we work. When did GPs become the enemy?

Etymology of the day: to be ‘blowing a hoolie’ (or ‘hooley’) was probably inspired by the Orkney word ‘hoolan’, a howling gale, with a touch of the ‘hooley’ that is a very noisy party thrown in.

Hey #ChemEd #ChemSky On the days when teaching lab experiments fail to produce any data - what do you do? Give the students model data? Get them to complete only part of the write up? Get them back another day? Or design assessments that don't rely on it? Any thoughts?

"The proper education of the young does not consist in stuffing their heads with a mass of words, sentences, and ideas dragged together out of various authors, but in opening their understanding to the outer world, so that a living stream may flow from their own minds" (John Amos Comenius, 1657)

📢After a brief hiatus the UK appears to have an industrial strategy again! This is very welcome news! 🇬🇧The publication of the Green Paper is an important first step to securing long-term green growth for the UK: gov.uk/government/c... 👇A few thoughts on its content below

Excellent news that the government is significantly boosting public investment! Instead of falling by a third it's now roughly stable (0.7pp of GDP higher on average). Less than we recommended, but of crucial importance for raising growth.

The rate of poverty in the UK is currently higher than at any point in the 21st century. @pollardtom.bsky.social spoke to @bigissue.bsky.social

Every month the press makes a spectacle out of government borrowing figures - but borrowing doesn’t have to be scary. It’s a vital mechanism for investing in the things we need to build a strong economy that benefits everyone. 1/3

Refreshing to hear Greg Jackson, CEO of #OctopusEnergy, discuss energy pricing in the UK on BBC Radio 4 Today. He changes the predictable media framing of the energy market. I hope the government takes onboard the ideas presented for restructuring the energy market to a local pricing model.

How good was Greg Jackson on #bbcqt last night in dispelling some of the myths around green energy Here he is explaining the reality of electric car batteries #bbcqt

Outrage as video shows fox caught in 'barbaric' snare trap on King's Sandringham estate “This snare was placed alongside a rare Chalk Stream which is regularly used by otters” Repost if you agree there should be a UK wide ban on these devices!

Today I recorded a Radio 4 show about the neuroscience of love, to be broadcast soon. But it led to a realisation, and I think it's important. Allow me to explain. So, to begin, why do humans fall in love? Why do our brains make us do that? The truth is complex and confusing. However... /1
