Gov. Hochul: NYers are hurting & scared of what Trump-Musk are up to. We need leaders who fight, not traitors who profit from fascists. #MayorAdams isn't putting NYC first. He has broken his oath. But you have the power here. Hold #EricAdams to account—remove him ASAP. gothamist.com/news/will-go...

Reporters: Please stop calling things DEI that are not DEI. This is only cementing the propaganda being used to legitimize the dismantling of all types of initiatives that are not DEI as well as legitimize efforts to end civil rights enforcement. Be specific with your language. Be accurate.

remember stuff like this when they tell you that diversity means a lowering of standards

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall. They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+. Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them. I think about it a lot in moments like this.

“I suffered, and so should you” Is a horrible way to think that literally helps nobody.

by freezing all federal grants, trump is fundamentally transforming the relationship between the executive and congress. he is asserting dictatorial authority over federal spending, transforming congress's lawmaking powers into advisory authority. it is a constitutional crisis

“This administration believes that the moon is made of cheese. This administration feels that there are 103 states. This administration asserts that penguins are communists. This administration thinks that Mickey Mouse did 9/11. This administration holds that mangoes are the real racists. This …”

It's a mistake to assume that people criticizing the Dems for their weak response to this crisis aren't also a) well informed and b) taking massive action off-keyboard. Thicken your skin. Criticizing our leaders is an important part of the fight we're now in.

In a functioning democracy, a president who -tries to seize Congress's constitutional spending powers -attempts to rewrite the Constitution unilaterally -pardons violent insurrectionists who attacked the government -fires the Inspectors General and DOJ prosecutors would face immediate impeachment

Like honestly the only way we're gonna get through this is to cultivate an unrealistically positive vibe to carry us through because a big part of resisting shock and awe is not giving into despair Giving into despair is worse than being cringe

Dems can: -oppose all Trump nominees until this EO is withdrawn -deny unanimous consent to slow senate proceedings -vote no on all cloture -force quorum calls at every chance It’s a constitutional crisis. There is absolutely no reason the Senate should be connecting business as usual.

So, where are the Democrats?

Me, smirking at the bear devouring my flesh: So you actually can’t do that it’s illegal. Focus on economics

MAGA presidents would rather shut down the government they campaigned so hard to run than go to therapy.

Feeling feelings I haven’t felt since March-April 2020,* except this time the coming suffering will be intentionally inflicted on people and was entirely avoidable *not that we as a society actually ever fully processed those feelings from 5 years ago

Walz: It’s on. The resistance is strong. You felt it. Americans, lo and behold, like democracy and feeding their children. So they're going to fight for these things.

trans rights forever

Btw, the people that want government to run like a business- this is what it is like when government runs like a business. No protection for workers. Profit (in this case corruption) is top priority. No investment in the public good. Seems bad!

Do not obey in advance. Or during. Or after.

We need to pay attention to this now before it’s too late.

Anxious Nation Waits For Democratic Party To Do Something, Anything In Face of Republican Assault On Life And Liberty

Democrats should not vote on a single Trump cabinet nominee until this federal assistance freeze is rescinded. Do not let up.

Thoughts and prayers are back on the menu.

One of the real problems is that too many people conveniently believe the opposite of diversity is merit, and the opposite of inclusion is high standards. Yeah, that’s just not the case. (See: Pete Hegseth among countless others.)

Excellent post

OK America this is what it looks like

This is just too good not to share. 🤷‍♀️🤣 Bluesky only lets you upload 1 minute so I cut this in two posts! #elonmusk

Curious what everyone thinks is the best way to have a positive or any impact on the country, during the first 30 days of the new administration.

If you’re waiting for a charismatic leader to step up and fix everything, get used to waiting. There’s no mythical rescuer coming. There’s just all of us and the daily work of supporting our communities. Find a local org, get involved, help the people around you. That’s the only answer.

This cannot be stressed enough. People do not in fact know what to do about most of what's happening. There are lots of things happening at once and a lot of it is complex. So if you actually have CONCRETE and SPECIFIC actions to suggest, do that. Some people will appreciate it & jump on board.

What our political leaders should do: Hold a big-tent conference (local/national Dems, never Trumpers, BLM, non-profits, the atheist people in their not-churches, the Holy See, etc), decide on a list of democracy redlines, and publicly commit to shut down the country if the regime trespasses them.

AOC: “We are on the eve of an authoritarian administration.” 🇺🇸

Exactly why @bsky.app is so important. Engaging on this platform is important. As is growing this platform. Which one of these men joins Tom Anderson and MySoace in the annals of history first ? Their greed is our opportunity.

I'm signing off for now. But can anyone doubt we are, as of today, in an existential battle for our democracy? It's a battle that could be lost but must be won. We have to call out every lie and resist every incursion. open.substack.com/pub/harrylit...
