Keir Starmer’s Government is facing criticism over its opposition to a United Nations tax reform plan aimed at tackling global tax avoidance, as formal negotiations resumed on Monday in New York. #FFS 🤬 It's miles beyond the pale. bylinetimes.com/2025/02/04/k...

Economic growth will never happen. Pay rises due in April 2025 won't cover the extortionate price hikes from utility companies, council tax, BT, privatised transport, that Starmer said would stop. Found online.

@thesnp.bsky.social The Scottish Government giving free rein 2 Scottish Health Boards 2 drag out annual health checks 4 adults with Learning Disabilities. Having 2 years 2 implement the policy wasn’t long enough apparently ! NHS Lanarkshire must be thrilled. www.healthandcare.scot/stories/4039...

People have had enough of Elon Musk interfering with our country’s democracy when he clearly knows nothing about Britain. It’s time to summon the US ambassador to ask why an incoming US official is suggesting the UK government should be overthrown.

Great to see @ukparliament.parliament.uk & related accounts so active on here. But where are UK Government Departments?

My first post here definitely has to be Tendril Theory, because when I made this in 2015 I had no idea how often it would be ripped off. Tell your friends and your enemies to tag me please 😂

UK govt wrong to deny pension compensation to the 1950s women. Ombudsman urged apology and compensation. Govt apologized but no compensation. No point of an independent report if recommendations ignored. Govt that funds foreign wars can fund justice. www.theguardian.com/money/2024/d...

In the week of #HumanRightsDay, I challenged Scottish Government to come good on its promise to put human rights at the heart of decision-making. I spoke up for culture & creativity in the Scottish Parliament & attended an EIS Union event about their ASN campaign. Here's a snapshot of my week:

This is absolutely shocking. It just can’t go on

I only found @desibility.bsky.social disability debrief a little while ago, but wanted to give a shout out to it as more folk join Bluesky - a great resource for news and in dept thinking across the sector: www.disabilitydebrief.org/signup/ Free, but subscribe if you can!

I make a newsletter on international disability news and I need your help. The two biggest challenges for a project like this are visibility and financing. Please share, to help others find it. And if you're comfortable, it runs on pay-what-you-can. www.disabilitydebrief.org/debrief/open...

The use of #AI in government bureaucracy is problematic. You only need look at the Horizon scandal to see the dangers when computers get it wrong. Now it is being deployed against welfare claimants in the UK despite knowing it is biased. #disability www.bigissue.com/opinion/dwp-...

A majority of Brexit supporters now want to accept free movement in exchange for a return to the single market. Will this finally rid Labour of its Brexit bogeyman? East Anglia Bylines’ acerbic political diarist, Pecksniff, asks this and other thorny questions.

Hmm…interesting Yorkshire Post column by businessman Dominic Macauley hitting out at charges of profiteering in children’s social care. But…

Terminally ill people can face high energy costs when they are least able to mange them. @consumerscotland.bsky.social’s new report recommends the Scottish Government targets extra support through the Special Rules for Terminal Illness, which allow for quicker access to benefits.

Dear @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social You said that part of the reason you couldn’t vote for the AD bill was the lack of adequate palliative care in the UK. You are the health secretary. Will you now pledge publicly & immediately to fix that? Or are dying people not enough of a priority?

Oh come on Labour - so depressing to hear Pat McFadden say UK has no plans for a youth mobility scheme with the EU. We have schemes with NZ, Australia, Canada, Japan, Iceland, Uruguay & more - only reason not to have one with EU is fear of right wing press. Such cowardice @bbclaurak.bsky.social

Good to hear this from PM: “end the culture of blaming and shaming people who for too long haven’t been getting the support they need.” We desperately need this change in attitudes as well as policy. For years gov focused on hassling & punishing people. Time to try genuine support & opportunity.

Dear media, 4 key points keep being ignored in coverage of Get Britain Working/Welfare reform: 1. Stop asking 'where's the stick?' We've had YEARS of stick. Making people ever more scared, hungry, cold & in debt just pushes them further away from work, health & support. 1/3

Dear media/commentators (2): More people are on health/disability benefits because more people are ill. & they’re iller for longer because: A. Getting treatment is hard & takes ages. B. We trap them in abject poverty. NOT because health/disability benefits are too easy to get or too generous. 1/2
