Great start to my campaign as Labour’s candidate for West Bridgford South in Melton Gardens today! Thanks to councillors for their support and residents for the warm welcome. Years of Tory failure have left roads crumbling and families struggling for SEND support. I’m standing up for real change.

🔥 This is an absolutely devastating set of figures on the UK public's view of Brexit. Absolutely damning. Look at each category one by one - particularly the economic ones. YouGov article on these data here. 👉 yougov.co.uk/politics/art...

YouGov find just 30% of people think we were right to leave the EU. The lowest number yet. Just 10% of 18-24 year olds think it was the right decision.

Latest @yougov.co.uk Westminster voting intention (26-27 Jan) Lab: 27% (+1 from 20-21 Jan) Ref: 23% (-1) Con: 22% (=) Lib Dem: 14% (=) Green: 9% (=) SNP: 3% (=)

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

Trump has pulled the security of former government officials we know are under threat simply because he doesn't like them. And he's done it at the same time as released a load of very angry, very violent, likely highly armed individuals who are loyal to him. It is dark stuff.

for all the many faults of US constitutionalism and the advantages of a parliamentary system, it's worth remembering that the Tories stripped the UK of centuries of birthright citizenship in 1983 with basically zero opposition

“Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power.” Benito Mussolini

Anyone who ever again suggests that the GOP is the party of the police or the party of law and order should be laughed out of the room. There has never been anything like this before in modern US history: the president pardoning people who we all saw on live TV assaulting police.

Just in case people don’t fully grasp it. The pardoning of insurrectionists is Trump’s way of building loyalty from militias and domestic terrorists to carry out unofficial acts for him

Trump has just let 1500 terrorists out on to America’s streets.

Historian of fascism here. It was a Nazi salute and a very belligerent one too.

Wrote this in another place on 6 November and thought it worth sharing here today. Just a note to remember that fascists are scared of you.

If you look back at history, there were many international commentators who said that Hitler wasn’t serious about the things he was saying. It was all for show.

Good labour market stats release this morning. Real wages are rising at a healthy 2.4% That's a New Labour rate of wage growth. We've all missed it.

Pretty much exactly 80 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, the richest man in the world uses the Nazi salute at the inauguration of his close ally as US president. What should rationally not be surprising is still so deeply shocking and simply difficult to comprehend.

What fresh hell is this?

A day to remember the brilliant trade deal Boris Johnson negotiated with Donald Trump a few years ago... Oh, hang on a minute, that never actually happened. Maybe someone should ask why?

this sort of naked cynicism is jarring, but you’re going to see more of it because this is how kleptocracy works. it makes groveling and sycophancy the rational choice, because it will very often be rewarded.

It's been quite something to watch supposedly 'patriotic' British newspapers actively cheerleading on a foreign administration that is openly working against our interests.

There are plenty of us who share this view, Mr Tusk. We'll be back!

He’s absolutely right, of course… …and that is why the EU, UK and Europe as a whole need to keep their focus on citizens, consumer rights, standards and quality. This is what the EU has been doing best - standing up to big tech. Repeatedly. We should be rejoining the EU and joining that effort.

One of the less-noticed but more entertaining political subplots of this parliament is Labour MP Polly Billington writing repeatedly to Claire Coutinho to ask her why she is condemning green policies that she introduced herself while in government.

Rapprochement doesn't have to be transactional exceptionalist. It can be positive, European, warm. Even exceptional. Like Mr @mikegalsworthy.bsky.social Watch. Hits the target. Outstanding. This is how campaigning should be. 1 www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/mik...

…and confirmed by a Musk ally. I’m sick of these Brexiteer Brits who are keen to sell us off to the highest bidder in the US. Join European Movement everyone - and let’s build the resistance to this.

Liz Truss threatens to sue Keir Starmer unless he "ceases and desists" from alleging she crashed the economy. In other news, here's Liz Truss making the exact same allegation against Gordon Brown

Last time I checked the EU never tried to overthrow a UK Govt. Where are the sovereignists now? Their silence is deafening www.ft.com/content/dd4b...

He is not joking. He does not have normal boundaries between fantasy and reality. He is absolutely a danger to the sovereignty of allies.

Trump wanting Greenland because he doesn’t understand the Mercator projection…we live in the dumbest possible timeline.

Any comment from NATO and Mark Rutte on one member threatening another member's territorial integrity with military action? Anything?

I mean it’s sort of amazing that the incoming US President has basically said he’s going to declare war on Denmark, annex Canada and rename bits of the globe to his liking and broadcast news is just rolling with it like he’s delivered a sombre and thoughtful policy announcement. Absolute insanity.

I don't understand the political timidity when it comes to regulating social media. These are companies that have decimated the free press, fuelled race riots on our streets, undermined the mental health of our children, paid little tax and are now undermining liberal democracy itself.

Also, you know, he denied the holocaust a lot.

Today is an object lesson in the radicalisation of the British right-wing press. Britain is being disparaged and insulted by a foreign far-right conspiracy theorist. But the Mail, the Express, the Telegraph and even the Times choose focus their criticisism on the British prime minister instead.

Elon Musk supports terrorism & violence now. He objects to 7.5 years for man who created Southport Wake-Up Group, proposed mosque as the target, championed attacking the police their, **took part in the real world violence, carrying a knife**, and promoted the list of 40 targets for violence

Your reminder that neither the Conservative Party nor Reform UK called for a new inquiry into grooming gangs in their manifestos just six months ago. I won’t bother searching for editorials from the same period but I don’t imagine such calls were there either

This is not what he said and they know it. Something very disturbing has happened to much of the British press and a fair amount of conservative politics. The extremist Musk tail wagging the formerly mainstream dog.

Thank God Starmer is prime minister. Imagine if we had someone in that position desperately doing whatever Musk wanted, as Badenoch evidently would. This moment would amount the complete subordination of Britain to a foreign tech billionaire.

All the world's a stage. And thanks to Brexit, Britain is now merely a bit player upon it.

The idea that Nigel Farage - ardent supporter of Donald Trump - cares more about sexual exploitation than Keir Starmer - former Director of Public Prosecutions is just laughable. Its time for Keir Starmer to lean into his record on this and expose the hypocrisy of the right

As expected, Badenoch backs Jenrick. The Tory party once held the line against explicitly hateful rhetoric like this. No longer. She is a coward at best.
