Today is an object lesson in the radicalisation of the British right-wing press. Britain is being disparaged and insulted by a foreign far-right conspiracy theorist. But the Mail, the Express, the Telegraph and even the Times choose focus their criticisism on the British prime minister instead.

What are we going to DO about it?

The corporate/right press is the engine of the encroaching (or should that be embedded) fascism.
If you do nothing I have to ask are you in denial or cahoots.
Litotes in the am.
America ,from which alot of this comes, has for the last 80 yrs sought to ensure Britain can never rise again or become a serious competitor. This is writing on the wall.
🙄😒
One had forgotten how vicious they are to ANY Labour government
Beneath contempt
They are beyond help anyway.
Perhaps if people stopped reporting it every 30 seconds, as if what the front of the Express says matters, that would be a start.
I resent your remark.
Your response is part of the problem. Everything this toxic RW media reports is taken personally and there is performative outrage.
The comment is correct and older people have been radicalised by the toxic RW media.
It’s not unlike blaming Gen XYZ for their lack of interest in politics & voting allowing RW parties to gain a hold in parliament, equally wrong & unfair
Just remember that many of us overturned the catastrophic end to the thatcher regime.
Got environmental issues on the table.
And have enabled the change in direction of the current government.
We are pulling in the same direction.
No matter if right wing press or Tory politician - ALL should come together as one to recognise the danger that a Musk & his rhetoric poses for the good of & in defense of the country, Starmer, Philips etc

Stop getting ideas above your station.
The tone of their coverage?
The nihilists have won in the US. We must prevent the same happening here
Number 6 - A controlled mass media.
The leaders of the mass media were often politically compatible with the power elite. The result was usually success in keeping the general public unaware of the regimes’ excesses.
- Laurence W. Britt in 2003
We are more than cannon fodder for the manoeuvres of the far-right, we are real people.
I'm Sal.
Just one of many millions being othered and demonized at the moment...
The journalists complicit in selling out the UK to populism will not be forgotten. Our is a 5th estate 5th column.
Daily Mair?
Both?
2010 if you factor in the deaths from austerity of their supposed countrymen
If not, they should... @carolvorderman.bsky.social @mikegalsworthy.bsky.social
Having said that, I guess Hugh Grant and Hacked Off will have tried every avenue available by now 😢
🤔
Most ppl I know feel the same about her. She really made the wrong call there
‘Elon builds a bonfire
Dacre plays with it’
Calling people rape/genocide apologists, accusing Starmer of a grand cover-up or saying NOTHING at all has been done far right rhetoric bcos it's all factually wrong.
I'm just wating for the reaper now.
All my life's work has been for nothing.
The question now is, what do we DO about it?
Imagine what we could do if left to our own devices, instead of being professional and delivering the curriculum in a fair and balanced way.
Meanwhile the fabric of our democracy and the nature of truth is at threat. America is a xxxxshow and we are in danger of going down that rabbit hole. Strong journalism vital.
BBC News needs a complete clear out of ALL political appointees, then left alone to try & get back to some form of objective neutrality.
Unreliable and best avoided.
(it doesn't work, he has topped out.
His “rightly or wrongly, many people think” shtick has always been a hollow facade of balance followed by his own agenda.
Proper judgements about news value went out of the window at the BBC ages ago.
That’s exactly what happened, Musk ratcheted up the debate and the PM felt obliged to respond.
"confronted with a reality it couldn't sidestep"
The blame inevitably will always be on the need to fill 24hr rolling news - but we're too far down that road for it to be always the answer. The BBC always loses the plot when it moves from news to commentary.
Remember when Sunak left the D-Day memorial early? Everybody had a "He's done what!?" take
Except those two (plus Paddy O'Connell) on Newscast: thought it was nothing-burger. Terrible instincts with the bias
Sorry to lower the tone, but he really is.
I suggest anyone who heard it does the same. Make the BBC respond
Mason should be ashamed, as should the whole of the BBC.
Belongs at GB news.
Our entire public discourse is at risk from this nonsense.
The interests of we British plebs...meh! Who the heck cares?!
But no, it seems there is a politically active right wing cell in the BBC news dept.
That's what Mason meant, right? 🤨
I know Robinson tried his best to skewer Jenrick but all #r4today did was give oxygen to far right talking points.

Journalism's gone AWOL.
Today programme said they had a duty to report on ‘all sides’ of a debate.
BBC World Service is still pretty good though.
I don’t want to be that person. I don’t want to be someone running away from hearing/reading things I disagree with but its where we are.
(I get journalists need some detachment, but it can become distorting as well, if they can't empathise with anyone who might be involved or impacted)
*Sigh*
Oh for impartial, informative news
The RW media have dominated folks minds, that's why they vote Tory against their own interests and blame Labour for it.
The dumb thing, market-wise, is that there’s a huge Times-shaped hole between the Graun and Telegraph, but the strategy is “be more Telegraph”. I suppose like the Tories “be more Reform”.
Editorial independence - looks like a feel-good myth.
My go to news source remains The Guardian but with the Observer/Tortoise deal what can we expect next?
I increasingly turn to Al Jazeera for foreign news coverage in preference to BBC.
No "news" anymore in the press. Not even analysis. Increasingly just opinion & unchecked (let's put it kindly) statements.
Even mainstream BBC gone to pot. World Service & Ch.4 best bets. Dorries tried to kill them remember... the former maybe her predecessors.
the Democrats are buying advertising space, but the Republicans are buying the stations.
They have zero grounds to complain about the state it is in.
So even if they were complaining about a real problem, and not over-blowing racist ragebait, they would still have be complaining about a problem they created.
Only the Times from the right wing press seems to have avoided a culture wars approach in favour of burying the PM in a report about Europe & Musk
We are living in dark times. Fortunately we have the TV record to see for ourselves
Why does not the UK gov' charge same disparager either "sedition" ?
IE: Get off their arses and enforce their laws and standards ! ! !

The British right wing press along with its owners _HAVE ALWAYS BEEN RADICAL AND FAR RIGHT_
The centre and left Guardian commentariat have been far far too timid to ever admit it in polite discourse.
Everything outrageous that Musk does is _ALWAYS_ a deflection; a smokescreen. Always look at what else he's doing whilst trying to distract you.
The Express
The Sun
The Daily Mail

Nothing more than propaganda for the rich!
Consider, for example, America's Christian nationalists. How eager are they to protect the US from Russian meddling here? They agree with the Russians on books.
No problem. No question.
They must be so proud.
Ban Twitter in the UK as it’s clearly a weapon used by an extremist to radicalise and undermine the state. Or do nothing and let the attacks go unchecked 🤷♂️
For Christ’s sake, Labour should be wielding their majority like an axe to bring in legislation that absolutely crucifies this level of disinformation and extremism.

We have been off the rails since 2016 and the press has been largely to blame. A democracy needs a free press. It is their duty to the people.
Waiting for the reply.
We need an X like defection from the BBC.
Looks like it's goodbye BBC.
The way I see it is that Nigel Farage is *THE BIGGEST* proponent of “the great replacement theory”?! 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Brexit by definition replaces Europeans with non-Europeans!
How do they not see this?! 🤷♀️
#Farage
#Immigration
Seriously?
Alerted us to the previously unknown notion that Starmer is ‘complicit in the rape of Britain’? That JP is a Rape genocide apologist’?
No wait — remind me if you will just who was in charge of the Home office for fourteen of the last fourteen and a half years?
Yes, Tories useless; Musk appalling. But how come this slipped off the agenda?
The Tory government knew this, but there’s now a moral vacuum where the Tory Party used to be
It’s not about race or ethnicity.
They get off on the muscle they can buy - it makes up for the inadequacies in their miserably little lives.
Leftie billionaires are more about sharing, doing good and philanthropy.
Politicians putting their egos before considering the victims suffering
They had their chance - and they fired all the MP's who weren't loyal or mad enough to go along with Boris.
Neither Reform nor the Tories will be in power since they split each others racists.
They need to own their mistakes and apologise - looks like they will never do.
Nowadays the media wants friction, attacks, riots, culture wars.
Grown up debate is dead in MSM.
