Terrible fear-mongering headline on this article. MORSE deserves what they get for not even trying to be compliant to basic infosec standards and lying through their teeth to get a taxpayer-funded defense contract. This is the work DOGE should be doing.

Not to mention losing the hard-fought legal protections that USPS mail has. Private delivery companies do not follow these important privacy and access standards.

Great piece. I ditched IG two years ago. It hurt visibility, but the "quiet" and ability to curate both intake and output has been worth it, as is the effort to engage more individually and with local galleries.

I've seen little coverage that TAS exists in response to court rulings that taxpayers couldn't sue the IRS. It is literally the ONLY empowered resource taxpayers have when the IRS makes a mistake.

Because it is a problem. Society is being driven by people who pay to influence your opinion and technologists who are making billions driving us to the brink of civil war. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Soc...

Exactly. I got to watch him many years ago wipe out the city block I grew up on using bribery and intimidation. Always a fun time talking about my history to people who think he's the second coming.

Great shot of the eclipse! I stayed up watching more and more clouds roll in. Couldn't see the moon at all, not even a pink tinge.

Well here's an interesting spin on the crashing economy.

US media isn't reporting the threats coming out of the White House. I've been reaching out to my US friends about it, and every one I talked to so far first thought I was joking, then thought 47 was joking, and finally vowed to take up arms to defend US treaties and your borders.

It's dopamine addiction and it's very hard to break. Resetting the online world towards positive engagement and rational communication is going to be a VERY long haul. neurolaunch.com/social-media...

While we're on the subject, I'm pretty pissed about "grok" as well.

I can see from your profile where you're coming from and I get the legitimate societal need for traffic data. Unfortunately, the hard documented fact is that ANY data available will be abused if such use is not explicitly prohibited by law. This is why data protection laws are so important.

Yes. For example, the NYPD's Domain Awareness System I cited above which "which integrates various sources of data, including traffic cameras". References have been provided, the information is public, feel free to educate yourself.

What is under discussion are indeed ALPR systems. assets.senate.mn/committees/2... Anyone claiming that traffic camera data isn't used for other purposes hasn't been paying attention to the issue, FOIA releases, and legal cases these past ten years. That's fine, but some of us have been.

Many. For example NYC's Domain Awareness System (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_...) and San Francisco's BID system (www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...)

This is incorrect. Minneapolis has deployed ALPR cameras (assets.senate.mn/committees/2.... These systems have a long history of data use outside of traffic enforcement. (For several examples: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automat...)
