I write about trade policy professionally (wish me luck). A North Dakotan expat in Minnesota, condemned to watch sports teams that are *almost* good

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie once I started thinking of it as like really well-acted Gossip Girl but Catholic Church. Plus it gave us Isabella Rossellini as a nun getting to yell at a bunch of cardinals, which is real treat

I came here to post this - happy to see someone beat me to it. This important Grimes Lore should not be forgotten

Hm, to my knowledge it didn't go anywhere officially, but it's certainly a methodology they like, so it seems possible it could resurface in the next administration

Will he? That's a different question and pretty unclear at this point. He has proposed a wide variety of tariffs for his second term and it seems likely at least some of them will come to fruition. But based on his first term, he also likes to use them as threats to force negotiations
comment in response to post
Can Trump impose these tariffs? Yes, probably. USMCA (the new NAFTA, negotiated during his first term) has a fairly broad national security exception that the US could invoke

And, this morning, the Mexican president said her country would respond in kind, but would rather just talk through the issues (mainly migration, illegal drugs): insidetrade.com/share/181733

I also had this thought, mostly because of how willing the US has been to invoke the GATT national security exception at the WTO

I write for insidetrade.com, a trade policy-focused publication

And don't forget to mention layers. We in the cold states love to talk about our winter layering

I 1000% second this. I have made these cookies multiple times and they are now a household (and neighborhood!) favorite. They are so, so good

I ended a ridiculously long Duolingo streak and instead committed my time to practice listening and have been very pleased with the results. My goal is two hours a day, but ymmv. A great resource (free and paid options) for this is dreamingspanish.com and r/dreamingspanish if you're on Reddit

I can’t speak to NM, but just anecdotally, the Minneapolis subreddit has seen a significant uptick in the past few months of posts from trans folks and parents with trans kids looking to move. I imagine this is on the mind of a lot of LGBTQ+ people

Thank you for this! I hope sports discourse becomes more prevalent here
comment in response to post
so you're saying it's more like: is one born a poster or does one have poster thrust upon them?
comment in response to post
good advice, potentially until the "find out" part 😆

I just realized I've been seeing your stuff in my timeline here and not the other place. That's great! Bluesky needs more sports discourse

I am probably not the kind of journalist you're thinking of (trade policy reporter for relatively niche publication), but fwiw I think this seems like a good idea. A vetted list would be useful starting point pre-verification as this site gets bigger

I am from North Dakota originally and people are always surprised when I tell them about how it was basically a socialist state for a while in the 1910s/20s thanks to progressive farmers who organized to wrest control back from Minneapolis bankers. ND still has a state-run bank and state-run mill
comment in response to post
If you're in the Upper Midwest, you can also buy Dakota Maid flour, which is from the state-owned mill of North Dakota (only such one in the country!). It was established in the 1920s to stick it to the big-wig monopolists in Minneapolis

Also get some fondue, of course

I've been for work a handful of times. While I don't get to do a ton of sight-seeing, I recommend the free (plus tip at the end) walking tours of old town Geneva. And for a relatively inexpensive meal, I'm a fan of a small local chain called Chez Ma that specializes in roasted half chickens

I think this all the time, especially when I venture out by car. Everyone complains about drivers, but it's been especially noticeable recently how bad at it everyone is now

Oohh, I am very happy to know this exists and will be entering immediately (that grand prize! I want it!)

An underrated songwriter, I think. She's really good at telling a full, emotional story in just a few minutes

I have never heard of anything called The Singing Detective, but now I must find it immediately

Everyone made fun of Jessica Simpson and Mariah Carey for being fat??? Britney Spears having a mental breakdown was hilarious?? A **wild** time to come of age

Do you think there's a difference in the way the British film industry approaches child actors compared to Hollywood? Not saying that's the reason, just one notable difference from some of the other major child stars
