A thread on why "I think" the Dems have chosen their current messaging strategy, and why I believe it's totally misguided and wrong.🧵

And crickets from legislators who claim the “sanctity of life” is their top priority. Again, “Pro-life” is branding, not belief.

Can we please send Musk to Mars? I’m not kidding. This seems like a real win-win situation.

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

Sending an email to the federal judiciary asking their employees to justify their existence - while you have cases in front of them! - is … an interesting choice.

I’ve noticed how often even well-meaning cis white men just *totally miss* that the Musk/Trump regime are obviously driven by overt and hideous misogyny, in addition to overt and hideous racism.

Number of people covered by Medicaid in the United States: 72,000,000 Number of billionaires in the United States: 813 Explain to me why 813 ultra rich people need tax breaks more than 72 million people need healthcare.

Do not tell me that Democrats cannot organize in Red States.

State legislators in MT and ID have introduced bills prohibiting mRNA vaccines, the FL surgeon general wants people to stop using them, and RFK Jr is undertaking a “review” of their safety. There are 18 million cancer survivors in the US. Vaccine-based therapies are some of the most promising.

Stand up to bullying (didn't we learn that in school?).

Hideously ugly, dangerous, lacking the very abilities that would be expected in its class - and stuck together with glue. Musk made it. So yeah. Sounds about right.

Janet Mills, Governor of Maine, showing the way. I hope her colleagues see the response she’s gotten. Standing up is moral. It’s right. It’s righteous. And for god’s sake, it’s popular.

"No outcomes are ever preordained, nothing is ever over, and you can always affect what happens tomorrow by making the right choices today" - Anne Apllebaum - We're standing at a crossroads! 🇪🇺🇺🇦🇺🇸 It's up to you! #BlueSkyFriends We need to be brave! 🧵1/9

If you haven't read Marc's open letter to Elon, I highly encourage it. This is speaking truth to power. Sure, Marc is powerful in his own right. But here he's standing sure-footed and punching up. Friend, you can speak truth to power, too. You can write a letter. You can punch up. We all can. 💙🔥

THIS. 👏👏👏

Literally cheering the destruction of services for the people of this country. I never thought I’d see the day.

This isn’t unique to KCMO. People are being fired for no cause and with no notice all over the country. They lose their jobs, their stability. Their communities lose income. And we all lose the benefit of their service. Shame on Republicans. Shame on them.

🗣️ @aoc.bsky.social out fighting for the people & federal workers: “Every day our job is to wake up and say ‘what can I do today?’ — There is no act too small. Every action matters.” 🇺🇸

We Dems in Red States see this all the time. Blue City voters pass a law; the Red State legislature "preempts" it. It's their maddening, anti-democratic playbook. And you can expect to see more of it nationally. P.S. The GOP's love of "local control"? Total hogwash. They want power. Period.

To avoid subtlety This was posted by the Trump White House.

A short thread that’s more than worth your time:

Dems, if you don’t shove this down his throat (metaphorically) you are worthless.

Right. So, we know a few things. We need to run Democrats everywhere, especially in the ruby red gerrymandered districts that usually go uncontested/undersupported. We need to build Dem infrastructure in rural America. We need to expand the reach of the Dem message. Here's how we do that: 1/

Those pesky facts just keep getting in their way.

Years ago, after the Cambridge Analytica scandal, I interviewed a former fb employee, and I remember her continually emphasizing that these tech bros weren't evil geniuses, but were, in fact, dangerous because they were utterly clueless, totally reckless, and had too much power.

A great mix of subject matter experts and activists - I’m humbled to be included among, and smarter for following, these folks. 💙 A huge thank you to Nicky for connecting so many people!

I follow French politics a lot, as many of you know. Any effort for mass layoffs of public sector employees there would create such huge strikes and marches, the level of disruption and paralysis would be biblical.

Democrats tend to “lead by poll” –from the back, where public opinion has already been set. But in this new era we need them to lead from the front. We need their help to cut the path forward. Democrats can – and must – rise to this challenge. Or they need to get out of the way.

Waiting for some folks to realize their very existence is waste to Elon Musk.

There is nothing men like this hate more than to be laughed at by a fearless woman. It's their kryptonite.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

I once asked a Dem strategist who he feared the most. He answered without hesitation. “Moms with kids who have IEPs. They’re the most tenacious people I’ve ever met.” The GOP has no idea what they have brought down upon themselves.

A bad faith actor…

Kudos to the school administrator who wrote this letter for making it clear to families what happened and who they should blame. This is the way to build a coalition--with a shared adversary and a reason to fight.

As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works. Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.

This. Especially Senate Republicans.

Again, women standing up to these men infuriates them. It offends their sense of world order. We need to do it more often.

This will get more significant as stories of real people emerge. Civil servants who dedicated their careers to making the US better are being fired for no cause over email by a team of 20-somethings directed by The Richest Man In The World. I honestly lack the words for how shameful it is.

Tremendous. This is the kind of energy we need. We make Republicans answer for their actions. That starts with running against every last one of them. LFG

That. Or he’s telling other people who are going to do something really bad that he’s got their back.
