Dr in glaciology who spends a lot of time mapping coastal topography at a University Cooperative Institute. Organizer for disability rights in science, which mostly involves yelling at agencies. Science is the easier part of my work. #T1D

I’ve survived tougher cuts of beef, bring it on mfers

Trans liberation and disability justice are one fight!

I'll remember this email my entire life.

If you make a single trans friend and listen to them the entire transphobic argument collapses

504 plans are how kids can carry EpiPens or make sure their classroom is peanut free. It’s how kids with diabetes can use insulin. It’s how kids with mobility issues can have more passing time or use an elevator. An attack on 504 is an attack on everyone. Listen to @lollardfish.bsky.social.

New: DOGE's spending has been secret. No longer. My colleagues have uncovered it. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

Saw this in the office break room of NOAA NCEI today. I’m going to take this “feel good” energy from an anonymous person and forward it to all of you, especially those that work for or alongside NOAA. I’m proud of the work we do, and I’m grateful for all NOAA does. Thank you.

Trying out the good ol #icanhazpdf approach here on bsky. Does anyone have access to this PDF? oxfordre.com/politics/dis... #canhazpdf

Moving to an office down the hall this morning, I dropped an entire box of 200 clear push-pins onto the floor, where of course it explodo-scattered. Le sigh.

“the United States is not a startup. The federal government exists to do all of the things that are definitionally not profitable, that serve the public good rather than protect investor profits. (The vast majority of startups also fail, something the United States cannot afford to do.)”

The lab group of Prof. Melissa Bop, Penn State University, is doing a research study on cargo bike users in North America. If you are a cargo bike user and have a minute to take the survey they’d love to hear from you: pennstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_... @cathytuttle.bsky.social

Hey, my kid is doing a thing. A thing that needs to be done.

"I don't know what NSF is going to be now, but it's not more efficient. It's just a mess." My story on today's firings and their impact. www.npr.org/2025/02/18/n...

This is really beautiful. You have power.

State AGs are looking for federal workers who have just been illegally fired to stand as litigants in a new lawsuit trying to freeze further action by DOGE. DM me if that’s you and you’re interested and you’re live in one of the following states: NM, AZ, CA, CT, MD, MI, MN, NV, OR, WA, RI, or VT.

An irony here is if you ask literally any Federal employee, they would have tons of immediately actionable ideas for how to make government more efficient. Those ideas would not include blunt smashing of public services.

one of the reasons i wrote this piece is to get away from the gauzy mythology of the civil rights movement "spontaneous mass resistance" "rosa parks was just tired". no. the movement remains a masterclass in the tactics--and the *strategy*--of resistance.

People who write about "this is the wrong fight to pick," never ever actually fight for anything. Feel free to ignore them.

I feel grateful today to know some of the most bad-assed, strong, resistance- and justice-oriented people in all of science. I’m honored to call them friends and inspired in their presence. Every one of them has been marginalized from Science in one way or another. It’s not (at all) a coincidence.

The main DEI page from @agu.org has been modified to take diversity out of the title. Glad to see it's not deleted entirely, but hey AGU, we're watching what you do and remembering the big game you once talked about supporting your diverse membership. Today vs. January

Here is recording + transcript of this week’s webinar about court case attacking section 504 in the US. Section 504 is a core disability rights law that is more than 50 years old. Link in 1st comment with more info about how advocates can help. dredf.org/disability-c... #accessibility #disability

This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

Get them while you can. The US CDC’s 2025 Immunization Schedules, for adults, children, pregnancy, travel, etc: www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp...

"And yet our Blackness is often seen as a distraction in the disability justice movement. And our concerns are rarely prioritized by other movements because people fail to see how our lives are impacted by white supremacy and ableist culture."

This is the best damned thing I’ve seen all week. May the courage be contagious.

During my PhD, despite full funding, I had 3 kids; no “Student Health Plan” covered them. I was personally covered by the Uni but my kids were on Medicaid for a handful of years. There’s zero (0!) way I could’ve gotten through grad school without that. Just thought I’d toss that out there.

In response to headline “Cruz-Led Investigation Uncovers $2 Billion in Woke DEI Grants at NSF, Releases Full Database” I want to re-emphasize that all these grants were public record and written in response to public solicitations supporting DEI content. No “uncovering” or “releasing” was done here
