I was malding over not being able to hook up with Tali as FemShep for years. All the other aliens are bisexual, dammit! Why not my cute engineer nerd?!?

A bunch of states de facto tried. They required users to submit photo ID by law to "protect the children."
Pornhub refuses to serve a half dozen states instead of complying because they think that's the opposite of safe or sane.

Although other types of disenfranchisement exist, gerrymandering itself does not affect the presidential election. The average Tennessee citizen is pretty upfront about what they want.

That would make sense. I never understood household income much myself. Maybe income per person, including children would be a useful metric? It's not like they're less expensive than adults.

I FORGOT PHYSICAL COPIES OF GAMES EXIST!
I was so confused by this post for like thirty seconds longer than I should have been.

I think if that's the case then people should be specifying that this is "relative to inflation." You can say people don't make as much as you think, or money doesn't go as far, but combining both of those so they hit twice feels disingenuous.
I was assuming $35K in today's money, which is worse.

I'm confused. I tried checking here www.census.gov/library/publ... and they're saying it's $80,610 and was $77,450 in 2022. Where are people sourcing these numbers?

I compare things to food. I know what a cheeseburger costs and how happy it makes me and DAMN that thing does not look like it would make me happier than having seven cheeseburgers.

I think less than ten games probably account for half of all non-mobile money in the industry. Counterstrike, Fortnite, Minecraft, League of Legends, etc.
Growth in the market overall is counteracted by the fact that everyone is fighting for a smaller slice of a larger pie.

I've gone on a whole narrative arc of this in my life.
First PC as a teenager: Dell whatever.
Got some money? Flashbangs and Spinners.
Next PC I turned off all the lights every time it turned on.
My newest one is a giant black box with sleek lines and a glass stand to keep it up off the carpet.

Part of me wants to be skeptical like "those things don't exist" but I know in my heart I'd be wrong.
What idiot dreamed up wifi-enabled smart microwaves anyway? A microwave performs no functions that don't require you to be physically present before and after, so the wifi adds nothing.

I saw an article today about that. Edge is trying to steal browser tabs from Chrome again. I swear it's behaving like a virus and our only hope is for the EU to get mad again and smack them.

Every few years I reassess this and the answer has always been "Linux can't meet all of my needs" mostly because of gaming. Valve's efforts with the Steam Deck and their translation layer have really pushed it though. In a few more years I think I probably will just switch for good.

Ah, yeah. I've always wanted to be gaslit by my own computer. I even like AI stuff a fair bit when I choose to engage with it on my own terms. The second, the "smart" bar can't be ripped out in a new version of Windows. I'm moving to Linux and will never look back.

Ouch. Not sure whether it's the expense or just being without which sucks worse. Here's hoping for a speedy replacement.

Lmao, at least he's keeping a positive attitude? I've only seen this attitude a few times from actual people and it's baffling. Always fun to go watch /r/WallStreetBets on Reddit though. It's cheaper than a trip to the zoo.

That was so satisfying. The game really pushes the villainy with these guys, so they deserve retribution. If it was a choice between "mercifully spare them" and "shoot them in the head" I'd take the latter every time in the game. But no, some of those fates were amazing.

Right now the trend isn't COD clones so much as it is "I'm going to get me that Fortnite/Apex:Legends/PUBG money!"
Case in point: Concord, possibly one of the biggest media flops in history which made zero dollars on a budget measuring in the hundreds of millions. Do some market research, guys.

The Steam Top 10 played charts by Daily Players is a list of games that are: 12, 11, 7, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, etc. years old. The newest game in the Top 20 is "Black Myth: Wukong."
Maybe something new deserves to be on that list, but we'll never know unless everyone can blow $60 ten times a year.

This applies the other way too in a way that's almost amusing. The average Indie Dev won't make the next Balatro, but someone needs to tell these CEOs they also aren't going to make the next Fortnite. Live Service is a trap that's eating half the money in this space.

You used to have to powerbomb a middle-aged woman through a glass table to get to the 99-cent bath towels first. Children were punched. There were fatalities. Black Friday is some kind of weird joke. "Fake Discount November" more like.
