People will tell you that you're fighting the future when you don't use AI, but that's just the propaganda they bought into. The truth is that there are some futures you should fight against. Like the one where we use up all of our limited resources because billionaires want more billions.

New pet peeve: seeing "powered by [insert brand] AI" or "fueled by [insert brand] AI". Nothing is fucking fueled or powered by any kind of AI. AI data center servers, however, are fueled by/powered by massive amounts of electricity. The energy and water use footprints for that are awful.

thank you for the reminder!

Go ahead and have legions of kiddos, asshole. I can't wait to see them grow up and rebel. Kids are not little carbon copies of a person. They're whole other people (duh).

If someone(s) could evoke DOGE into coherent and verifiable physical manifestation (out of the in-between limbo state it currently exists & works in) it could be destroyed. I'm not saying imprisoned because that would have to be one hell of a big brass vessel. But ya know, either would be fine.

Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for tech rehearsals/previews of Tarell Alvin McCraney's "The Brothers Size." It's a good one. We open on Friday night and run through most of May. You should come see it if you're in Portland!

haha yeah nah. Fuck all the way off.

Please take two minutes to submit support for making Portland Street Respone coequal to other emergency responders and establish a PSR comittee. My testimony comment in the comments below- feel free to borrow or copy if you want. Thanks!

Aaaagh covid in the house again. First time since March of 2022...I tested negative and don't feel bad, but T is feverish & actively ill :( Fortunately he had a phone appontment with a doc tonight, and there will be a paxlovid scrip waiting at Walgreens in the morning. Isolating again. SUCKS.

WOW. @jrmorber.bsky.social this is cool/terrifying!

Then pass the job on to someone who isn't afraid to use their fucking voice.

It's a two-coffee day & that's fine. Because It's also a warm croissant filled with chocolate day too. And now to get as much done as I can with the information I have.

Little pleasures: The house is full of the smell of roasted potatoes, peppers and onions. And I am so pleased to have at least 4 meals worth of chicken and the aforementioned veggies all prepared for the top of the week.

ネコ飛出し注意 (neko tobidashi chūi) Means “watch for cats darting out” and I love this sign.

I am very frequently a successful hunter. But I think it's time for some things to come to me, now.

Don’t remember where I saw this library flyer a while back but it’s great

(50501 Portland, OR) Well THAT was a LOT of people! Thousands and thousands. We walked with them for most of the afternoon. And the vibe was fautlessly friendly, positive, earnest. Samba Portland was drumming. It was good.

Minor and fleeting thought: It has been a long, long time since I felt like dressing up for anything.

In other more positive news, I am now at the stage of coughing up nasty green crud. Which means my nearly 2 week annoying as fuck chest cold or whatever it was is almost done.

Today's divinatory phrase: firmness forming within ambiguity and caprice.

It's fine that whenever the opposition does something stupid or dangerous or damaging to even their own causes media & folks loudly point it out all over the place. That's good. What would be even better, though would be to jump in and actively exploit the vulnerabilities caused by said idiocy.

yup yup yup

The world feels overwhelming right now - but you are NOT powerless. The more we organize, the more we win. We ALL can turn doomscrolling into action - hear from one of our worker organizers on how we're doing it at Starbucks to protect our communities and our coworkers! ✊🔥

Safe travels & good coffee to the road crews of the Phillip tour of Hamilton! Have a great run in Eugene. I'm lucky to have worked the whole Portland run. Friends in Eugene & points south, see it if you can. @plutherus.bsky.social & @solis93.bsky.social I think you would particularly appreciate it.

Storyboard for upcoming Superman film.

Portland's Community Safety Division director says Portland Street Response is in "a rebuilding year." The mobile crisis response program has struggled to find financial and political support within City Hall, but now, with new city leadership, the program might finally be positioned for success.

Getting really good at tracing FUCK OFF into banishing pentagrams. Have to take care it doesn't become too automatic but yeah.

Harborton Frog Shuttle season 2024-2025 is coming to a close. We moved over 1500 frogs to and from the wetlands this year, and are a step closer to getting that underpass constructed for them. Let's do it again in December!

ALL. OF. THIS.

I didn't used to understand how people in the Middle Ages could get so mad that they would dig up someone's corpse and put it on trial. Now I do.

We don't all have to be focused on the same fights right now. There are many fronts & fights. The most important thing is that each of us take up one or two. That's really it. Get to ground, find your people, and fight like hell.

Wherever humans are involved, people gonna people. Some of it has been the repeating-lesson 2 x 4 introducing itself to me through various situations in life. But I am pleased to say I'm on the periphery of some that is stirring no emotion but bemusement, self-reflection, and conscious detachment.
