Problemet med denne analysen fra Holte er at 4. kvartal hadde relativt lite (og nedadgående) covid etter en stor sensommerbølge, og lite influensa. Covid will be back. www.nav.no/no/nav-og-sa...

"Do you call it an AMOC collapse if a weak and shallow wind-driven overturning persists after the thermohaline part has collapsed? Or not?"👍 If only the shallow wind-driven part works I'd say, it's no "overturning" nor a "circulation" but a directionless mixing, not generating a northward pull.

DOGE's new AI, built to scan federal workers' emails to see if they get to keep their jobs, is the latest in a number of AI schemes from Musk. We might scoff at how dumb these ideas are, but the truth is, they're not even supposed to work. They're built to eliminate accountability.

ahem, the pointless fawning over 'the left that knows it has to be tough on migration to capture voters' imagination'

I probably would have been writing a ton about Project 2025 in 2024 if it were not for the genocide. I'm sure that's true about a ton of the best policy researchers out there. The impact of Democratic Party-backed genocide comes through in a thousand different ways that are largely not measurable

I appreciate this response from Ed Yong on why he requests that people mask at his events. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

Good piece. Of course the liberal approach to global warming is rooted in fantastical techno-solutions of carbon removal, further paving way for the far-right as well as the preeminent managerial task, so-called solar radiation management, with potential for catastrophe in status quo and disruption.

I've written about the method in the DOGE USAID madness. It's not bullying as power, it's good Wall Street Consensus on steroids, by and for private equity www.phenomenalworld.org/analysis/how...

Elon Musk is cratering in polls: WaPo: Only 34% approve of Musk's role, 63% worry about his data access CNN: 54% say it's bad Musk was given a big role Majorities disapprove of Trump in CNN, WaPo, Gallup. On the pod, @juliaazari.bsky.social is great on all this: newrepublic.com/article/1917...

Spoke to @democracynow.org about the history of strange bedfellows between cost-cutters and Leviathan-tamers and the glimmer of hope in Germany pushing back against Musk's aspiration to be global kingmaker. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIPW...

"The aim of the Aria programme is to create an early warning system that could give a decade-level forecast of tipping points being triggered where possible. Such a warning would be a huge incentive for the world to accelerate climate action, said Prof Tim Lenton" www.theguardian.com/environment/...

On climate protest, a superb point from @richarddenniss.bsky.social. If protest wasn't effective, govts wouldn't try to ban it. And as much as politicians like to talk about parliamentary logjams, as soon as fossil capital is threatened, they mobilise with extraordinary rapidity and efficacy.

Crystal clear perspective on the lines that are being drawn vis a vis US/Europe open.substack.com/pub/adamtooz...

Couldn't be clearer that Democrats aren't a party in the way that Republicans are a party. The GOP has an ideological project. They build power to accomplish specific things. The project of the Democratic Party is getting Democrats reelected. 80-90+% of Congress is, so it doesn't take much effort.

'when you erase a group from the past, it becomes easier to erase them from the present. When you pretend trans ppl weren't part of historical movements, it becomes easier to exclude them from current ones.' -- @parkermolloy.com

Realistically not gonna make it well below 2C. Like, even before the latest warming jump that keeps puzzling scientists, we were already on track to hit 2C between 2040-50, and we're closer to 2040 than the 2008 financial crisis. Even without cascading TP the rate of warming will be devastating.

Trump/Vance transformative agenda for Europe seems to take shape: * Help to replace centrist governments in Germany, France (and ultimately also UK) with far-right allies. * Neutralize European Union as a regulatory power able to challenge US interests.

www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state... This is by far the best, clearest and most realistic analysis of what we're in for that I've seen.

Somehow AI is both gonna save us from climate change while simultaneously being an existential AGI-threat, but nevertheless we need to destroy the climate first. grist.org/energy/georg...

"generative AI, is built on a long-standing regime of extracting wealth from information, and a reliance on cheap labor to maximize the information it has collected. Treating generative AI as a revolutionary new tool,...

Is what Trump is doing (or claims to be doing) so far from what countless anti-government and anti-liberal voices - in the media and in vox pops - have been demanding for some time? All the focus on Curtis Yarvin and exotic intellectuals hides the folk wisdom of this agenda

Thunderbird’s Spirit Norval Morrisseau ~ Anishinaabe n.d.
