My overall explanation for all the "military" stuff is "personal Trump resentment" along with ideologically-motivated "dewokifying" enthusiasts. Which is to say they wanna get rid of as many high-ranking Black people as possible. Women too, ideally. But then, all the JAGs too?

this is how we’ve enforced the prohibition against anti-black racial slurs!

I write essays about constitutional history and constitutional law. If you have nothing to say about or contribute to those discussions, that’s fair, but please don’t reduce it to “Trump bad”

nope, and he never will

yes, you aren’t aware of a set of arguments being made so they must not exist

my principal contributions to Discourse are the essays I write for the New York Times, which I will just observe I have never seen Williams engage with it anything more than the most superficial and sniping ways.
comment in response to post
Yes, there is this odd thing where Williams seems to think that I have never been subject to the kinds of pile ons he experiences, but that isn’t true. The difference is a) I don’t care about it all that much and b) I don’t see social media as a place to have Discourse.

one thing i’ll also note is that chatterton made this same accusation about the people who follow me — you are mindless drones and i am a cult leader — the last time we got into it on twitter
comment in response to post
he is simply not beating the allegations that he lacks a theory of mind for people who disagree with him. hell, the fact that he characterizes me as an illiberal “woke” figure is good evidence of that.
comment in response to post
the last point i’ll make here is that @chatterton.bsky.social is performing a familiar move, which is equating rationality with a particular affect and style of discourse (self satisfied chin-stroking) bemoaning the absence of rational discourse, but never actually engaging seriously with critics.
comment in response to post
and we know he has never engaged with critique of his ideas because he continues to write essentially the same essay, month after month, year after year. in each iteration, he is the rational man, standing against wokeness.
comment in response to post
i am struck by the incredible vanity and arrogance contained in @chatterton.bsky.social’s view that he is a paragon of rationality fighting against knuckle-dragging hordes. i am even more struck by it when i consider the extent to which he has never actually engaged with critique of his ideas
comment in response to post
now, we are going to ignore the fact for now that i very much engaged with his piece and pointed out a few of its many flaws. we are also going ignore the fact that my issue with yglesias is that he is distorting my work, which is a substantive criticism

and authority aside, your law breaking leaves the things you are doing vulnerable to legal challenge.

if you want to impose new duties on government officials, you need actual statutory authority. if you want to create new benefits, you need statutory authority.

Hey Matt, would still like an explanation for why you falsely characterized my work to your readers.
