OPINION: "Attacks on disabled Americans and the policies we rely on lie at the core of so much of MAGA culture." @lollardfish.bsky.social, whose son is autistic and has Down syndrome, on how Trump admin. policies will affect people like his son.

The next time someone calls a reporter "biased" or an activist — especially someone who is a woman, a person of color, LGBTQ+, an immigrant, and/or disabled — ask them to articulate the difference between bias and expertise: longreads.com/2018/03/29/i...

Mid-Michigan folks: the Okemos #socialsecurity office is among those being closed by Musk/ #DOGE. This means longer lines, and slower service for local seniors in our district. www.mlive.com/news/2025/02...

DOGE has announced a total of 45 Social Security field office closures--so far. SSA has 1,200 field offices where people can receive in-person help getting benefits, updating records, enrolling in Medicare & more. They served 30M applicants & beneficiaries in 2023 — nearly 120K *per day*.

An $880 billion cut goes far beyond rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse. It's taking health care away from families who need it, plain and simple.

MI CD-4 (Huizenga), CD-7 (Barrett), and CD-10 (James) peeps: call and tell them not to kill your neighbors by cutting Medicaid.

#SNAP cuts in the House budget resolution would take food assistance away from millions of low-income people from every state to help pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. Here’s the state-by-state impact: www.cbpp.org/research/foo...

The budget that we are being asked to vote on this week makes everyday Americans sicker and poorer. It will give the wealthiest Americans a tax cut big enough to buy a new private jet.

The House budget resolution targets Medicaid cuts of up to $880 billion or more over a decade, but doesn't specify how. There is just no way you can cut that amount out of Medicaid and not affect state budgets, coverage, benefits, and provider payments. There are always trade-offs.

We need more abled people to stick up for disabled people right now. They're going after accessibility, 504, IEPs, and RFK wants to put us in labor camps. Yet the ONLY people I ever see talking about this are also disabled.

from linkedin! this is an open casting call for disabled people who would like to play a role in a movie about the 504 Sit In. no acting experience necessary check out the roles here: app.castittalent.com/Radical

Please read and share. But especially share with folks that might not realize how critical Section 504 is to so many people. I tried to write a simple clear explanation at the break. I hope it reaches some people who aren't already on our side. Gift link: www.startribune.com/why-are-repu...

If you're in need of a real reason to maintain hope remember that billionaire-backed propaganda campaigns and mass censorship across state and federal governments has only made the country even more queer

the “make america healthy again” agenda appears to be an elaborate op conjured up by sentient strains of listeria and salmonella www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

The ACA’s enhanced tax credits are working. More people than ever have access to affordable health coverage, racial disparities are narrowing, and families are paying less for care. If Congress fails to extend them, millions will face skyrocketing costs.

RFK's order to "assess the evidence" of mental health medications is exactly the same sort of credibility-washing bullshit that the UK did with the Cass Review. The findings will be cooked to agree with the freak anti-vaxxer, so they can do "In light of the Cass Review ..." against psych meds.

Presidents Trump and Musk laid off dozens tonight at Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas. “There will be students on campus whose classes have no instructors when school resumes...accreditation could also be at risk, as it cannot support all its students.” lawrencekstimes.com/2025/02/14/h...

after the overturning of roe, black infant mortality has spiked nearly 11% in states with abortion bans: www.reuters.com/world/us/inf...

And the eugenics continue. Now he wants to deny those of us with mental health disabilities the medication we need to participate in society and LIVE.

🥗 a presidential commission on chronic disease while disabling the fed gov’s ability to fight or track infectious disease. Or curb malnutrition. Or report on food safety. This should go well.

Trump's Make America Healthy Again Executive Order once again repeats the false trope that America saw "a staggering increase" and that "Autism spectrum disorders had the highest prevalence in high-income countries, including the United States." 1/ www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Trump’s latest executive order (that was no doubt written by psychopath RFK Jr.) goes after antidepressants. As someone whose life was saved by them, you will pry my prozac from my cold dead hands. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

I keep thinking about how we were on track toward effective zero veteran homelessness, and this administration is gearing up to send us hurtling in the opposite direction.

In a time when grocery prices and inflation continue to rise, a 20% cut to SNAP is not the answer. Congress needs to hear that the public doesn’t support this. You know what to do: call in your legislators and tell them to protect SNAP in this crucial time at 202-224-3121!

Republicans had no problem arresting old people using wheelchairs when disabled folks were protesting McConnell's attempt to take away their healthcare. www.vox.com/policy-and-p...

New: If enhanced federal payments for the ACA Medicaid expansion are eliminated, states have two choices: 1. Make up for the cut, at a cost of $626 billion over a decade. 2. Rollback the expansion, leading to 20 million people losing Medicaid. www.kff.org/medicaid/iss...

Older adults overwhelmingly prefer to age at home, but affordable housing that can accommodate people with disabilities is limited. Meanwhile those who own homes still stand to lose them after tapping into Medicaid from estate recovery policies impacting intergenerational wealth transfers.

I hate the sentence "dignity in work." It has nothing to do with dignity. It has absolutely everything to do with putting the poor into their places.

Elon Musk makes $8 million a day from the US government A Senior on Social Security gets $65 a day Guess which budget Trump and Musk want to cut? #ProudBlue #BlueCrew

My disabled child gets Medicaid benefits. We had to wait 5 years to get on a state program for that. It’s been a life-changer for all of us. This is just heartless miserliness to give billionaires even more money.

People who are telling you that there's a lot of fraud in Medicaid are lying to you in order to try to convince you to support taking healthcare away from children on dialysis. Because the only way to convince enough normal people to harm disabled children is by lying.

We urge the Senate not to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Kennedy’s long record of spreading misinformation about autism in particular and public health in general makes him a disastrous choice for this role. #StopRFK

Farmworkers feed the nation, yet they’re barely paid enough to feed their own families. This is why we fight.

Chaos...Federal funds are now starting to affect Michigan libraries. Library of Michigan is continuing the hiatus for Public Library Services grants through 2025 & delaying the application and grant period for the Improving Access to Information 2025/2026 program. Status of LSTA funding is unknown.

Congressperson John Lewis, whose ‘good trouble’ they love to quote so much, was arrested 45 times in his life. The last was in 2013 protesting for immigrants, during the Obama presidency.

“Based on CBO’s projections, we project that the households whose food assistance would be cut in a typical month starting in 2027 include approximately 17 million children, 6 million adults aged 60 or older, and 4 million disabled people.”

That the Howard Dean scream had more political repercussions than literal Nazi salutes is a scary reflection of the moment we're in.

This is a rather telling statement. Nearly a third of women in Louisiana are Black. www.businessinsider.com/gop-senator-...

Join us on February 17 for a Know Your Rights immigration townhall. We'll be in person in Warren and virtual on FB Live. Interpretation available.

there have been a lot of indignities of late, but having to talk about someone known as big balls is top 5

We are getting reports that disabled employees of the federal government who have already established reasonable accommodations on the basis of disability will have to reapply for those accommodations, and that the **agency head** will make the final determination

Imagine being that rich and instead of just resting on your piles of money, you spend your life working to dismantle American democracy and to cause pain across the globe. But he couldn’t do it with the support of Republicans who are not allowed to say they care about Americans ever again.

In happier news, today is National Black Women Physicians Day. My fellow Black women physicians and I proudly stand on the shoulders of Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler (1831–1895), who, in 1864, became the first Black woman to earn a medical degree in the United States.
