From my latest piece. The true motivating energy behind the anti-trans activists of today.

When Andrew Tate was charged with rape and human trafficking, Trump intervened to fly him back to the US. When a working-class father of a disabled 5-year-old child was wrongfully deported and charged with NO crime, Trump refuses to lift a finger.

We are at a dangerous, dangerous moment in US history, where the President of the United States is threatening to send US citizens to be imprisoned by a foreign ally, and the foreign ally is saying it won't respect an US court orders to release people that it's holding.

Doge kids say they want govt to have an apple like experience. Except that would involve having too many employees who are readily available at all times and want to resolve your issues asap. Seems like they’re heading in the opposite direction.

In response to President Trump's demand that K-12 schools sign certification against “DEI programs” to receive federal funding, Minnesota Department of Education Commissioner says he will NOT sign, as it would "unilaterally overrule the will of Congress."

Morley: I think you’re confusing Roger Stone with Oliver Stone Boebert: I may have misinterpreted that. I apologize

1/🧵 Judges across ideological lines are ruling against Trump at strikingly similar rates (84% liberal, 86% centrist, 82% conservative). This isn't partisan opposition to Trump—it's the judiciary functioning as intended by cutting across partisan lines to uphold the Constitution.

A US-born citizen was walking near Chicago in January. ICE snatched him off the street, handcuffed him, threw into a van. His wallet, which contained his ID, was confiscated. He was detained for 10 hours before being released without a record of what occurred. immigrantjustice.org/sites/defaul...

"dei medal" you might as well just put "n*gger medal" because that's what they mean to say

The eventual fate of the GOP

Auchincloss: "Republicans are not stepping up and saying the very basic sentence of 'Ukraine is right, Russia is wrong.'"

Lady Gaga did what Katy Perry tried and failed to do.

@aoc.bsky.social: "They're saying cut $880 billion from the Energy & Commerce Committee. I sit on that committee. Almost the entire budget that Energy & Commerce explores is Medicaid and Medicare. There is no way they can make their math square without enormous and devastating cuts to Medicaid."

Rep. Zooey Zephyr - My Wife - just gave an incredible speech against a drag ban in Montana. It was so strong that a Republican rose to speak passionately against the bill, chastising the sponsor. The drag ban dies in Montana, flips 10+ Republican votes! This is the power of representation.

Since the president has signed an EO making English the official language of the United States, here is the first non-English copy of the Declaration of Independence, printed in German just days after July 4, 1776. We have always been multilingual. cdm16274.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/coll...

Finally. A major media outlet has finally reported on Trump’s total travel ban for transgender visa applicants seeking the United States. I had to scream for two days to get someone else to report on it. It is NOT just for athletes. www.the-independent.com/news/world/a...

Revisiting channel orange and pyramids is such an amazing song!

JD Vance's speech in Munich sounds like it was literally written by the Kremlin

Unreal. The US government is dumping Asian and African families and children in random countries that they have no connection to. Dumping, not "deporting." Deportation implies the return of a person to their home country. This is treating people like toxic waste. www.cbsnews.com/news/us-depo...

Interesting: the State Department’s procurement forecast detailing a $400 million order for "armored Tesla" has now been edited to "armored electric vehicles." The document shows the edit was made tonight at 9:12 p.m. -- after it was highlighted in reports

Anna Paulino Lunatic has been busy, moving between cemeteries subpoenaing the Warren Commission.

Catholicism makes no sense why does a baby need a drop of water to be baptized but an adult gets waterboarded?

When social media exposes traditional media’s deceit, it’s time for independent journalists to investigate why the press is backing a president who undermines free press—and is it coordinated?

As companies shell out big bucks for Super Bowl commercials, remember that many said they were forced to raise prices due to inflation. Also remember that average profit margins in nearly every sector in the S&P 500 are running near or above 10-year highs. Hello???

Trump wants to shut FEMA because it acts as non-partisan oversight. If he controls aid funding, he can blackmail Democratic states, and still give vast Federal dollars directly to Republican governors, with no checks on how much of it they actually spend on disaster relief… Always follow the money!💰

andrew johnson was impeached for violation of the tenure of office act. in the scheme of things, was that a huge deal? not really. the actual issue was that johnson was trying to scuttle any attempt to reconstruct the former confederate states on an egalitarian basis and *that* was intolerable

In 2016 the NYT ran multiple front page stories page about the grave national security risk of Hillary Clinton's server. Today's front page, and nary a mention of the successful "plutocratic coup" (said by a sitting House member) or "constitutional crisis (said by a sitting Senator) unfolding

What is it called when an erratic billionaire, whom nobody elected, rampages through the federal government, purging civil servants, seizing functional control over trillions of dollars, and attempting to destroy entire agencies—all in violation of the law? This is a coup. slate.com/news-and-pol...

if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

This is what authoritarian and totalitarian regimes do: Codify official public blame against others regardless of their own culpability. Sometimes the scapegoat is political rivals or Jews or minorities or women or trans people or DEI or CRT or Freemasons or liberals/Leftists or trade unions, etc.

I can see the fear. He is afraid, with good reason, that he’ll be blamed. Trump is actually very easily spooked. And when he reacts this bizarrely, and falls back on the low-hanging fruit of racism as cover, it’s because he’s scared.

this from krugman's explanation for why he left the times is quite something

On the one hand, this is ridiculous regime propaganda, presented by a shameless liar. On the other, the New York Times has marveled at her “steely and unflinching” performance. So, who’s to say whether this is good or bad for the American people.

This is okay, it's better than it's been, but Dems still aren't really using the language of crisis or being honest about the problem. Trump is conducting an illegal, authoritarian power grab. THAT'S the crisis. It's an assault on our system of government.
