And it's obvious he doesn't know how many people have died, or how young or old they were, or much of anything about the outbreak. He might have some dim awareness of it, but hasn't given it a half-second's thought. He's indeed in full bullshitter mode, because that's his default.

They are in an increasingly siloed bubble and they really only talk to each other. It's like how pre-Moneyball scouts would develop draft consensus based on the handsomeness of a guy at one tryout 20% of them went to. Suddenly 80% of them had the same draft grade. They are confident and delusional.

I feel the same as you, Tom. I've always kept personal politics out of my books to whatever extent possible, and in the past I've limited my political comments on most social media. I still try. But we're at a point where silence makes us complicit. Eli Weisel said it all, I think.
