A gay guy, a Black man, and a woman walk into a flight deck— that’s not the beginning of a joke, but just a regular day at work! There was so much DEI on this plane that we could hardly get in the air. Luckily my limp wrists were able to wrestle the heavy jet back to the ground 💅🏼

In bad news for English fans, the ground staff are already assembling the stage for the post game presentation 😬😂 #ashes #Washes #ausveng

Bravo @MCG social media team with this pithy response to (yeah, that &^$*) after Annabel Sutherland's name was added to the honour boards with her century. #Ashes

Um sorry what is happening #washes #ashes how do we not have technology for this?

Could someone please tell Brad Haddin that it isn’t a batsMAN? #WAshes #ashes

In that vein, I also realised that Jim’s life coaching is now a legitimate Thing.

Am reading a book on Marxism for work - at times it’s good, and at other times it tells me I need to talk more about death?

Monash University has today admitted to a fresh round of wage theft from casual teachers. Australia’s largest uni has underpaid teachers a further $7.6m, taking Monash’s total underpayments to $17.6m since 2021

Another thing I made this year: Real and implied birds.

Mary Leunig got the last word

Word of the day is ‘apanthropy’ (18th century): a dislike of company and the desire to be left alone.

Room full of satire writers will struggle to find a funnier line that the BBC Newsreader just now saying “The Chinese approached Prince Andrew in the hope of finding intelligence’”

Imported gas (to Australia? Really?) and a blank cheque for fracking across this wide brown land. "𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒅𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒆𝒕 𝒂𝒍" (told ya! ⤵️) Are there any other "wealthy Americans" trying to tip the scales on this, 𝑹𝒖𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒕? #NewsCorpse

I wonder who the first Gen Z orca was that saw a pic of their mom looking like a baddie in her dead salmon hat and decided to bring the trend back

I’m honestly finding the trend of social media broadcast medical trauma -> personal brand development -> ongoing content strategy to be such a cynical and awful phenomenon. And the performance of empathy in response has become a competition sport. Just horrendous and dystopian the lot of it.

The switch has very much been flicked. #AUSvIND 🏏

more users are joining and the hog grows longer

The proposed 'social media ban' legislation is being pushed through Australian parliament tomorrow with zero consultation with the young people it impacts most, and zero input from digital, youth and mental health researchers, practitioners and advocates. See this thread for more info:

Nice work to @theguardian.com for this piece on Kyle Sandilands. Kyle's got form dating back over a decade. As a reminder, in 2012 he called a reviewer on air that she was a "fat slag" and a "fat bitter thing", and that if she didn't "watch her mouth he would hunt her down".

a human skull described as “Benin, Fon” sold for 800 Euro in Amsterdam last week— when will we see the end of the sale of human remains? www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auctio...

Judge having a hard time with some pseudolegal documentation 😀

Another day, another million new people have joined Bluesky! 18M users? 🙂‍↔️ 18M friends 🙂‍↕️

Bit of a win for local landcare groups - have a look at the turn out to celebrate the centenary of our local patch of bushland. That’s all local people coming together to commemorate Country being cared for - alongside acknowledging the thousands of years of care prior to that.

Incredible use of the medium, you gotta click through and read the bios go.bsky.app/KDY26rh

After reminiscing about the joys of the wild ride that was True Blood, I’ve found myself rewatching the first season. It’s still, mostly, holding up.

Is everyone spending this weekend making the jump from Twitter to Bluesky? My followers numbers skyrocketed today - it must be a weekend project for y’all

On October 11, a woman was critically injured when a male relative assaulted her in Katherine, NT. She died in hospital in the past 24 hours. She is the 82nd Australian woman lost to violence in 2024. She is the 12th woman killed in under three weeks. ❤️ Support my work @ redheart.theprintbar.com

As far as the eye can see… #toitutetiriti

Everyone from Twitter found me here, which has inevitably led to the peer pressures ‘hi friends!’ post. Welcome out of the gutter all.

Bluesky feels like the witness relocation program

Sexiest Man Alive implies there’s an even sexier corpse that needs to be excluded from consideration

Does Optus offer a service whereby they forcibly take your internet off you for one day a month? Because I'd be okay with that.

Someone sold me on Bluesky by saying it was like heaven over here. So, expectations high - and waiting for the inevitable come down.
