My post about Dunning-Kruger seems to have gone mildly viral, so I wanted to boost the one other fact I know about the paper, which is that its results were essentially rigged: it’s sort of like if an optometrist gave you an eye exam by using a book of optical illusions.

Three New York City-based board game cafes have ratified their union contract, securing a laundry list of protections for workers represented by @tabletopwu.bsky.social.

i think we've all had eras like this

猫さんがぜんぜん肉球を舐めないからエリカラ無しで薬塗って様子見 そんな顔で見ないでください

This is interesting—and doesn’t even get at what I find hinky about the experiment: the “logic” questions were from the LSAT arguments section, which has been *precision-engineered* to produce much more uncertainty in the person who picks the best answer than the person who picks the second-best.

anybody saying this website is dead is an idiot,we had like 3 incredible main characters today. guy who went to the hospital for jacking off, weird old man complaining about likes, and the fucking vice president. this place has the juice

Yup, that’s it. “Wearing the juice.” It sounds just like what it means.

I mean, he didn’t interview Son House *in his capacity as Dr. Demento*, one assumes, but tbf that was what I was searching on

the annoying thing about “Dunning-Kruger” is that the actual paper starts with a perfect anecdote that ends with the perfect colloquial phrase for the delusion, and yet everyone still insisted on using “Dunning-Kruger” instead

wait, is Tommy Tuberville actually just the smartest Republican Alabama has

you have to imagine this sharing an online cultural footprint with like, a few hundred blogs and a bad .avi of the superfriends wassup parody

Iris DeMent, you know what you have to do

There's a lot to be said for the loss of democratic function in this country as a direct result of the complete collapse of local media.

Because I'm a complete goddamn nerd, I'd like to explain to folks (particularly Liberals) what a feint is, in sword fighting. People think it means "a fake attack." It doesn't.

Plessy v. Ferguson for trans people

Nothing sums up the state of affairs for transgender Americans quite like the US Supreme Court denying trans people life-saving healthcare at the same time that the Trump administration shuts down suicide prevention programs for LGBTQ people. These bastards want us all dead.

#CanCon

damn, those are some shapes

honestly this might be the thing that tactically/cynically pushes Lander over Mamdani for me—it’s just hard to imagine the Cuomo/Adams factions managing to gin up the same sort of billion-dollar scaremongering campaign against him and have it have much traction

Jason is very prolifically published in English. But he isn’t discussed much these days. I think the sense of excitement has long given way to a sense of institutionalism. But I promise you, reading Jason is a very good use of your time.

“The Election” by Al Columbia from Amnesia no. 2

It's easy to assume Lander got arrested on purpose to raise awareness (or "as a publicity stunt" if you're cynical) but for weeks he's been quietly escorting immigrants through the court precisely because typically his presence would protect THEM from arrest www.thecity.nyc/2025/06/17/b...

the fact that this photo might actually cause me to rank him ahead of Zohran shows that there’s all different kinds of charisma

you’re…you’re the fella who thinks the AI fell in love with him, right
