I draw a different, different conclusion. It’s $12M plus add-ons, which always sound super generic. My guess is 1. We have a sell on clause and 2. Some of the add ons are not just performance based but based on whether/how much he actually plays for Cinci. My guess is we end up getting a chunk more.

I mean the things you listed wouldn’t have gotten the deal done. It was impossible to keep Evander in MLS before the cashfer rule. But yes, he good. Bitter about how this has gone but also happy for the league that we can keep dudes like Evander and Lucho in the league.

Yeah I assume that it was guaranteed that Cincinnati would move Acosta either to Estudiantes or to Dallas. A lot of trust shown on the part of all involved, but especially Da Costa and RC Lens tbh

Love to see it. From someone who has been very critical about how long they’ve taken to identify and finalize acquisitions, kudos to the FO on this one.

Surely there is, but also I bet there is something relating to appearances or Evander’s next contract. They’ve probably paid $12M subject to increase if he actually stays. $12M for the rental, more if he doesn’t leave too quickly. I’m guessing this is part of Acosta’s relatively small fee as well.

If you’re trying to replace him like for like, sure. I don’t think that’s what’s happening though. We’ve moved on. He seems to be a good fit with the squad they’ve built and should help us build a cohesive identity playing higher up the pitch and progressing much faster.

To be fair, watching his highlights his assist tally would be significantly higher if his teammates could get the damn thing on target

not a big fan of reading into cryptic messages. More so the next part. He posted another video training 1 on 1 on Brazil. Visa resolved, still in Brazil, Phil says he’s not in his way to Coachella. Seems like they’ve said as much as they can until a deal is done.

I mean the next story is a video of him training, clearly still in Brazil.

Swinging and missing on a DP is a big deal. If they have targets they like, which it sounds like they do, absolutely do it ASAP. But you can’t sign a DP for the sake of it. That gets you in trouble for years if it doesn’t work out.

Knowing nothing about him besides this tweet, maybe he also is a potential LCB in a back three 👀

As a Venezuelan-American household here let me tell you that we are absolutely over the moon to welcome Deyna to Portland! She is extremely talented, a strong leader, fierce competitor. She’ll fit in great in Portland and will feed off of our atmosphere and culture.

Yeah depth is a good idea. Lassiter can play LB and from the sound of it from his comments to the press, he’s expecting to. That said, my impression has been supporters expecting improvements over the starters, which is I guess what my question is about.

Imo Timbers supporters generally vastly underrate the talent and value of JDM in particular. I believe he’ll be the first choice RB for Colombia before too long.

People demand a backline signing. They added Surman in the summer. Do we actually need more defenders? Was defending even an issue once the preferred backline had more time together? What are your expectations, assuming we keep the same group of first choice defenders?
comment in response to

Is the defense *really* the issue? Given the extended absences last year due to injuries and international duty, the backline was disjointed. Couple that with a new system, and it was a challenge. First choice across the line and keeper didn’t happen often, and not until late. I keep seeing

Imagine leaving Portland for Cincinnati if your goal is a shot at playing for Brazil. Can’t imagine this is what he has in mind.

Nothing screams opportunities with the Brazilian National Team like an intra-league transfer to Cincinnati.

Nice Evander got his tickets to Coachella Valley to join preseason and can’t stop thinking about it
comment in response to

Yes!! A lot of the takes about JDM being a bad defender early in the season needed to rewind the tape a bit further and see that it was mistakes up the pitch in possession and positioning that constantly left defenders in the lurch.

I’ve been praying for a back three for quite some time. I expected Phil to with that but form and injuries in the back may have prevented it. I’d be pleased to see this.

I do wonder if Taylor misused the quotation marks and only meant to add emphasis or if he meant it was nominally “within” and MFG is buying Lucho or Evander through NYCFC with the intent of moving them in the summer.

Surely he’s recruiting David Luiz, who is now out of contract and Flamengo is not going to re-sign him. 😬

Tbh maybe he plays LWB with a back three and Mosquera finally as a RWB 🤞🏻

is imperative. If Trump is true to his word, he will turn the immigration enforcement apparatus into a tool that will play a hand in the devastation, harming all workers by making worksites less safe and making enforcement harder, and giving these low-road employers a get-out-of-jail-free card. 5/5

There have been big strides down the road toward rectifying this tragedy. The fact is, their immigration status puts them at risk of retaliation that devastates worksites, families, and communities, and until we reform immigration laws, DHS’s cooperation in protecting them from retaliation is 4/5
