Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam : That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.

Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.

But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.

There's a whole subreddit dedicated to this. It's very depressing.

I've been working with AI for some time, and I've always asked for citations. I'd often find that the cited source was different from the AI's response.
So as a search tool, I can see it having value, but as an information tool, it should be trusted the same way you trust a frozen lake in spring.

"Mostly garbage" seems like a great title for a Musk biography.

I don't quite understand Firaxis perpetually shipping unfinished Civ games. You'd think they would have a little respect towards their audience.

omg ... that looks amazing! I had no idea such a place existed. Looks like I know what I'm doing next time I visit Ireland :D
Thanks for sharing that!

You are absolutely correct. I will always prefer physical books, but digital books do provide convenience and accessibility. Same with audiobooks.
I guess I'm sentimental and nostalgic for books as we shift to a more digital age.

There's nothing quite like picking up an old book, smelling the age in the pages, reading any scribbles written in margins, seeing long forgotten dog ears.
Digital books are sterile bits. Physical books are tiny human histories.

I wrote this essay on why we should support our local civil service workers the same way we supported health care workers during the pandemic.

The funny thing ... ESPN gave everyone speakers for their computers. We on the tech side all wore headphones, but some on the editorial side used their speakers.
Every so often, one of them would visit the front page with their speakers set to max (unknowingly) and wake up the entire office.

Now that's a commission I'd watch on tv.

I worked for ESPN from 2004 to 2010. There was internal revolt about autoplay on the front page. Everyone at .com (espn3, internally) hated it, but management loved it because it brought in ad money.
We eventually got rid of it, only for it to come back years later after I left, I think

I'm told Musk ... and I quote from a Mr. Jack Dorsey ... will "extend the light of consciousness".
Who needs to build rockets when you can do a moonshot in your own mind?
Maybe we should give him a dedicated room for that.

These people are spreading through our government like a virus.
Every system they've touched will need to audited and probably replaced. We're talking billions of dollars in damages.
Hillary Clinton lit a firecracker. These guys are exploding a nuclear bomb.

Ideally, honest constructive feedback that coaches a person instead of judges them is ideal, IMHO

You nailed it. This is why the tech press is so freaked out. They understand the threat, especially since Musk's goons are doing this in every agency.
At the very least, every US citizen should freeze their credit until this is resolved. And that's the least thing to worry about.

Just some information, you can deattach a quote post from the person quote posting you so you don't get swarmed. Blue Sky offers some other safety features as well as.

It's the two envelopes story. A new CEO takes over. The former CEO leaves two envelopes with instructions to open in case of emergency.
A crisis happens. The first envelope opens. It reads, "Blame everything on me."
Later, another crisis. The second envelope reads, "prepare two envelopes."

Looks like a heck of a show with a great ensemble. Janet and Cole's riffs are some of my favorites. Is this going to be recorded?

Back around 1994, I was working at a Pizza Hut on my college break. One week, they replaced all the pizza pans with smaller ones, then gave us tiny cups for toppings and jacked up the prices.
When I told my dad, he was legitimately pissed. He refused to eat from Pizza Hut again.
