This is the ultimate dick boss move from Musk - except he isn’t even the boss, he’s just a dick.

I honestly can't help but laugh at the idea that a fake agency, created under the guise of efficiency and all the same old "reinventing government" tropes of the 90s, is boasting about a new layer of reporting and red tape that involves paying federal employees to complete forms no one will read.

Isn’t it time for the folks on the left who aligned themselves with the “anti-woke” movement to admit they were conned?

Working on my NEPA lecture for Monday. If you have thoughts about what should be in these slides, I would love to hear them.

Gonna be interesting to watch the Big Nonprofits quietly take down all their Big Talk about DEI from their websites. Cause truth be told: they were over it anyway once they realized it was more than a communications strategy. They're going to be quiet about it, but that sigh of relief will be LOUD.

happy friday! just leaving this here...

at some point if you're willing to admit that this salute mimicks another *recent* famous salute you might as well just say which historical salute both are mimicking. but apparently nobody wants to be the first to say "Nazi"

This is basically the same message we get when they’re in power too btw (oh wow would love to do universal health care or declare a climate emergency, but have you ever heard of Joe Manchin?)

New from my team: for the same volume of energy transition minerals it would take to make all of the Pentagon's non-combat vehicles into EVs, we could electrify the entire Postal Service, the entire Parks Service, and put battery backup on more than 7600 federal buildings. 🧵

Every time a package is delivered:

NEW: The director of data science and engineering for what is now known as the US DOGE Service has resigned. "If DOGE truly was concerned with efficiency, they wouldn’t have fired experts in procurement," she writes, "who prevent waste up front." This is by @makenakelly.bsky.social

Egg on your face? In this economy?

between Governors Hochul and Pritzker, you can imagine a dynamic developing where Democratic politicians compete over becoming the face of effective resistance to Trump. I think there are clear political upsides to winning that race and am mostly surprised that there have been so few runners so far

I’m in need of a calamitous ORTBO

The perfect dog has logged on

This is obviously terrible and we’ll all be dealing with the wreckage for the rest of our lives. But I hope Dems remember this the next time they’re in power. The scale, scope, and pace of what we’re witnessing can be about building things, too.

As HUD is being decimated, a critical, moving new book calls on us to reassess who we view as "homeless." It is a *much* larger problem than measured by our current measures. And it's not primarily a coastal one. A review by yours truly of "There is No Place for Us" by @brian-goldstone.bsky.social

I'm ready

“There are currently four people remaining over there to do the work of 15 people. The danger to the national airspace can’t be understated." "This is a very real threat to the American flying public.” EXCLUSIVE ⤵️

An inspiring article on courageous community college leaders who are *publicly* organizing and standing up against DEI attacks.. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

Seriously, wtf is happening www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

Reagan gutted the federal bureaucracy in the early 1980s and, an half century later, our nation’s capacity to function never recovered. That, not some imaginary red tape, is why NEPA never works for expediting projects. What’s happening now is much worse and will last much longer.

more and more these days, I find myself thinking that you can accept the discipline of your political goals or you can accept the discipline of your resentments.

Rewatching The Last Dance and I think the only thing that can match/exceed the Luka trade re: sheer insanity is the decision to break up the Bulls. I still can’t believe it actually happened.

Out today in The Chronicle of Higher Education, my official coming-out as bereaved. www.chronicle.com/article/canc...

Go birds

Okay what is going on here. Are the accounts at a private banking entity? Does the federal government have direct debit permission set up? So many questions as to how Treasury instructed this payment. (Via NY Post’s Craig McCarthy)

Hard to believe that cancelling DEI, slashing basic medical research funding, and trying to buy Greenland hasn’t done a single thing for the American economy.

Democrats - if you can't build a movement off of this shit, then being don't know how to help you

Folks are shocked that their institutions, after professing commitments to climate justice and DEI, are now caving to Trump and scrubbing all references. It's brutal. And it's the smallest taste of what our students felt when their universities called in the cops b/c they protested a genocide.

University energy and sustainability centers in a skeet

i wanna talk to smart people in #climate policy and the #renewables sector about what trump’s permitting chaos has done to the energy transition. does not have to be on the record. wanna chat? hit my line: [email protected] i’m also on signal, dm me for info

I have to assume Drake will never be seen in public again

3 mins in and the refs already stacking this for Mahomes

Wrote this two years ago and it's still true today: "The name 'chiefs' has never been about honoring or even acknowledging Native Americans—an argument in its defense that you're likely to hear today. It was just the nickname of some white guy." Gift link below:

The Philadelphia Eagles were named, in 1933, to honor Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s National Recovery Administration, part of the New Deal—the NRA’s Blue Eagle stood for protection of labor and federal oversight of the U.S. economy (pic: Library of Congress)

Happy Go Birds day to all who celebrate

This should be a reminder to folks that while Manchin took a rightful amount of shit for shaping the IRA/Build Back Better negotiations, the real issue here is that a lot of Democratic Senators love the fossil fuel industry and are deeply invested in its expansion.

Alex is one of the best. This sucks.

Bumping this again. Are you a Philly-area researcher affected by the comms freezes, health data purges, or any other Trump administration policies? I'd love to talk to you for an @inquirer.com story on how health providers and researchers have been impacted.

Career Federal Civil Workers are heroes. Thank you for your public service.

It's almost like the academic impulse to put your head down and just do the work is designed to keep you alienated from your colleagues and compliant when while your institution crumbles.
